Question

Going through some of the image people are putting in the August contest today I noticed some of them got finalists in the July contest.

It makes sense to me to wait to see how you do in the July contest before you put the image into the August contest.

I am not sure if I am right on this or not but it confused me today. I noticed two of them.

I was looking through the entries today and went back to the four hundred page entries. The one's that were submitted the first of the month.

I noticed an entry that got second place and one that got first place in July that were resubmitted in the contest for August.

I have a full size version of an image I cropped and won second place with the cropped version of this image and I like to put the uncropped version back in the contest.

If it ok to resubmit second and first place winners is this ok to submit an uncropped version of a second place winner?

Kerby, as far as I know there is no rule about disallowing resubmitting winning photos and no one stops us from resubmitting a photo.
I respect your honesty for asking... because if what you have observed is true, it does not make much sense to me because,

What does it prove by resubmiting a photo that has already won the first or the second place?
It is expected to win again (it would only serve as an ego booster), but if it does not win, it will degrade the quality of photo. Obviously it was not a true winnier or was not as good as it was first thought...

Now, resubmitting the ones that made the finalist makes more sense. If one believes very stronly that the photo has a chance of winning the second place or higher, then resubmit it by all means. (I did this, but mine did not go beyond the finalist level..., I had better results from resubmitting non-finalist, non-winning photo. Some has won...)

I do not mean to encourage or discourage you for resubmitting a winning photo. I would rather move on and work toward new and better quality creation...
...Please know that this is just and only my opinion for whatever it's worth, perhaps not much...

I emailed you but if you go to page 81 on the current people entries you find the resubmit of the first place winner and a second place winner if you go to page 422 on the current contest entries you find the second place resubmit.

That really doesn't make any sense. I know on a previous thread, Jim Miotke unofficially said he would hope that if someone got a winner, they would not resubmit. He also said that if you get a finalist, you ~may~ want to resubmit, perhaps rework and resubmit once. But after that, even I think you should just move on. If I got a win...I'd absolutely take my badge with pride and then go take more pictures to submit!

Laura it does not make sense to me either. But check out the page 81 on current people entries or around there and see what I am talking about.

I agree with you.

There is a chance they re-submitted the photo before the finalists were announced. Don't they close the contest and open it for the next month before they announce the finalists?

Remember MaryElla Keith's GP with the cat in the gallery? She said she submitted that one 3 times and it was ignored the first 2..Food for thought?

Carolyn, Definitely, if you really believe in a photo, give is another chance or two. But Kerby was talking about First and Second place winners taht she saw re-entered for Aug, which is what was puzzling.

Yes, Kerry, I would think that the photos for July would be removed from the entries pages and new clean pages started Aug 1 for August. It still would not prevent someone from re-entering a photo on Aug 1 that was entered on July 31 WAY before finalists and winners are announced, but it would prevent confusion when we browse throught he entries. I believe the photos Kerby saw were actually entered toward the end of July for the July contest, which is why they show as winners in the current entries pages. All the other photos on that page were also July entries.

  Kerby,
I was looking back to this thread and see what others responded...
I found it interesting that the top entry of yours was not there when I responded first... I only saw the second entry I see above... Is it possible that you had another question and two were combined by BP? (I may have overlooked the first one. Sorry if I did.)

Thank you for your email... I looked them over, and I think that those two photos were entered prior to the winners were announced..., also as Kerry said, they might have been entered prior to the finalists were announced.

Anyhow, if they were entered prior to the either one of those announcements, my answer to your first question is, "certainly yes". To me they ought to have waited until the winners were announced. Otherwise, this confusing issue would not have arised. Make sense?
