Getting Images on website

Hi all...

In the near shot term future id love to get some of my photos put up on my own website for people to view and *possibly* buy.

Okay, ive got a large bank of slides..and I wanna know what the process is of getting them scanned etc. Its all a little confusing...
You have your slides.. which you then take in to the custom lab (of which I already know which one I will use)..
Do they first make prints of the slide and then scan the print, or do they actually scan the slide and then put on cd??
What about sizes, dpi and all that. What sort of scans do I need to get my pics on my website to look professional.. sort of like this --->>>

Is it an option to get single prints from all slides and scan those?..

Sorry if its all a bit confusing, but you cant be any more confused than me!!

Thanks for all your help!!!

P.s Is it better/cheaper to get them scanned at the same time as being processed.

Ive just had a thought about my question,.. would I be right in saying this??? :

1)You take ur slides and have them processed.

2)They then scan the slides at a very high resolution and store onto cd (which no doubt is costly)

3)You then have all your pics on cd's which you can then use to upload onto your website, showing ppl the beauty of your pics, and if someone wants to buy one, you take the cd to the lab and tell them which pic you want printed and what size?.. or would u take the slide to be printed from? or it doesnt matter?

?????????
Is that close enough???

now all I need to know is what resolution is BEST for website reproduction and for prints?

(And you can also manipulate/adjust certain features (eg make black and white) once on cd and save it to make it a better photo????

I do believe you've got it, Ben. I would think that, unless you were going to be doing some editing on the computer like turning them B&W etc, you would want the original slide to make the prints. Yes, once on CD, manipulate them til your heart's content!

For the web site, if you get it from BP, has an image uploader that will now automatically compress your image size to the desired pixels for the site.

Hope that helps!
Laura

I wouldn't post at much more than 72 dpi, maybe 96 dpi. If you post at too high a dpi people can just download and print them without paying for them.
