Photography Question

Janet Spears

How to number files from your camera

I've been taking photos of my son's baseball team, and was recently asked to photography a little league football league of about 150 children. I really want to do this thinking this is an open door to opportunity. However, I am not sure how to photo all these kiddos that I don't know and keeping their orders straight. Is there an easy way to keep up with who is who so that this challenging shoot will go easily? I will be taking about 5 shots of each child. Thanks, Janet

I don't know about the Rebel, but on the Sony F828, you can create different files to save the photos in, so maybe you could do a different file for every kid, and just list which file is for which kid and what they want.

I shoot a d70 and I know it would be rather troublesome to change the file name between each kid. If it were me I think I would number the kids as they came and took their shots, keeping a written record of that shooting each kid and then just shooting a picture without kid between each one. Just a thought.

If you press "INFO" when reviewing a shot, it'll display the folder/file number. If you have a list of the names, just write the number for the first shot of each child next to their name:

Tim A. - 001-0045
Jane B. - 001-0051
etc.

When you have parents fill out order forms have them include the child's Jersey Color and number or any other identifying information that will help you. In addition to recording the file number you will also have the jersey info to help you identify them in case something gets off.

Since you're going to need a lab to print all those traders, mag covers, etc, you might want to go to www.groupphotographers.com before you jump into this. You'll need all the trader data, name's and stuff, in a form that the lab can work with. You can read-up on all of this on their website.

I use to be an digital-image editor for them before I got into digital-video editing here in Spokane. Anyway, they have cool products and they do a good job.

Thanks again for even more great tips. The jersey numbers is a great idea. We're all the same color, but different teams. That will be great! Also thanks for the website, Vince. I've been looking at Marketing Materials for Schools, etc. and their website looked great, but I don't have anyone that has used them. I'm still researching this and appreciate the additional site. I'll check them out today. Thanks again, all! Janet
PS. LOVE THIS SITE!

MPix can do alot of the sports stuff. . . they offer Trading Cards, Memory Mates(team and Individual on an 8 x 10 print w/ sport specific info), 3" Buttons, Calendars, as well as just the prints and they are very reasonably priced. . . I order the folders for the Individual 4 x 5 and Team 5 x 7 Memory Mate from Albumsinc.com. Both are very reputable. I went to the website Vince mentioned as well and requested information . .. if you have any questions, feel free to email me Janet! You would be surprised what people will pay for these kind of pictures. . . I have made some good money and it's fairly easy too.
