The Zone System I've been reading into the zone system recently, in an effort to gain more control in my photographic endeavors. Unfortunately, and for a variety of reasons, I don't develop and print my own work. I deal with a lab (sometimes your basic Wal-mart, sometimes a "true" lab--all depending on the film and the funds). Is the proper method here, then, to figure out the intended contraction/expansion(e.g., N-1, N+2, assuming I'm using the terms correctly) and then inform the lab? Should I only do it with a "true" lab--would the friendly folks at Wal-mart know what the heck I'm talking about? Thanks for your help!!

I use a professional lab that does only b&w and ,although I don't use a full blown zone system, they will develop my film in any manner I request. I can specify time, temp, developer etc. Of course they charge accordingly but they will do it. You are likely to get just a lot of blank stares from the Wally World folks.
