Star Trails with a Canon Powershot S1 IS

I read somewhere about how to take a picture of star trails by leaving the shutter open all night. But I don't think my Canon PowerShot S1 IS has the capability to stay open that long. From what I can tell, it will only stay open for up to 15 seconds. Is there a way I can make it stay open longer? Am I not understanding my camera? If anyone can helo me, please do! I really wanted to try out this picture idea!

Katrina, with the Canon PowerShot S1 IS you can only get 15 sec of shutter speed. This is not long enough to get star trails. BTW, you don't need to leave the shutter open all night. In my portfolio is a picture of star trails that was around 25 minutes. But, unfortunately, your camera does not appear to have a bulb setting (being able to leave the shutter open for as long as you like), so you will have to use a different camera.

I had a look at the picture...it's very cool! Thank you for helping me out with this. I guess I'll borrow my dad's camera. Thanks again!
