You don't need Photoshop CS2 for borders and frames. There are lots of more affordable programs that can do that.

Microsoft Picture It or Digital Image or Publisher all come with tons of border & frame options.

If you already have Photoshop (any version) there are several plugins that will add borders, mats, edges, etc. Two that I know of are EdgeWorks and AlienSkin Splat.

  Hi Chris,
Thanks for your reply. I have several standard frames that are all shaped the same. I am looking for something that allows me to make it uneven if that makes sense. It is hard to explain what I am looking for. I want to frame a picture but maybe cut out the top corner or something and have the frame follow the uneven pattern.

  Hi Peggy,

I sent you an email and then just read your last post. Sorry, the message I sent was about standard sizes.

Well, I don't know if this will help, but you could select your photo carefully with the magic lasso tool and follow the line you want then click select/modidfy/border and choose a size you want then fill with your choice of solid color or pattern with the paint bucket tool. I have no idea if this will work well or not--it's off the top of my head. :-)

If your picture is already color, here's how to do it in photoshop, i'm assuming elements is closely related.
i personally am not a fan of history brushes and things. not enough control over them. use layers masks, they will go soooo far for you in the long run. layer masks and paths are your two best friends!

anyways you're pic is in color and its the background layer...create two new layers. always leave the background alone. alright leave the bottom layer (the first copy_ in color and now desaturate the very top layer. (Ctrl + Shift + U). now click the new layer mask button at the bottom. this will create a new window next to the black and white layer. make sure this white box is selected and now take your paint brush and paint with black and white where you want color.

*Painting in black will make the color come back and painting in white will erase the color and make it black and white again.

good luck, hope I didnt' confuse you. it's actually a very simple process once you get used to it. now taking a black and white photograph and painting on that is a little different, a tad more complicated but all around not too hard once you get used to it. good luck.
