Photography Question

Jennifer Ralston

Has anyone tried a vinyl background?

In the Backdrop Outlet catalog, they advertise a background that is a "white fabric with a vinyl coating."

Has anyone ever tried a vinyl backdrop before? It says it's an alternative to paper. I worry about buying paper and not having a solid floor to use it on. I hate how wrinkled muslin gets.

Any suggestions are welcome!
Jenn

I've used vinyl coated backgrounds for years for small product work. They last longer than paper, and are cleanable. However, without a solid floor, you would not want to lay one down and stand on it anymore than you would with a paper background.

Thank you so much! That answers my question. The big issue I have with paper right now is no solid floor!

Thanks!

Now ,I have a couple I got from-keaser backgrounds on ebay.
that is poly- it is very heavy and I do use it as the floor to protect white back drops.- used as a backbrop it self it does not have as crisp a look to it.

  Jennifer,
If you have a carpeted floor, you could always buy 2 or 3 sheets of 4x8 foot plywood or particle board to lay on top of the carpet for a temporary hard floor. This would give you an 8x8' or 12x8' area on which to lay your background and work.
I'm not familiar with the heavy poly background that Debby refers to, but I would still have my doubts as to their stiffness on a carpeted floor.
Good luck.
Michael
