Props

Does anyone have an idea where to buy props for indoor and outdoor portraits. I know there are companies that sell them, but the ones I have found are expensive. Anyone have a cheap source?

Did you try a google search?
Or even e-bay?

I can provide you with the number one source in the US - Denny Manufacturing. They sell backdrops, props, and anything else related to the photo studio. They have a beautiful catalog that is mailed free of charge every year. Sorry I don't have their website address with me, but do a google - you'll find them.
But...don't expect cheap quality merchandise, and don't expect cheap prices. You get what you pay for.

Try yard sales, auctions, flea markets. . .I have tried Ebay but usually find the props to be not what I am really looking for(kind of cheesy) and also expensive by the time you pay shipping . .. I too am trying to build up my props and it's hard without spending a small fortune. . . I have borrowed some things as well . . . if you are doing kids or even Seniors ask them to bring some of their favorite things . .. the senior I'm doing tomorrow is bringing her guitar. . .

ALL THESE ARE EXACTLY WHAT I WOULD SUGGEST!!
AND SOME OF THE BEST PROPS ARE AROUND THE HOUSE - THE NIEGHBORS TRASH,LOL. AND THRIFT STORES.
*A LARGE SPAGGETTI POT - A OLD WASH TUB OR SUIT CASE
*SOME ONE THROWS OUT A OLD CRIB- WELL TAKE ONE SIDE AND PAINT IT AND USE IT AS A FAKE CRIB SIDE.
*A OLD SUIT COAT AND TIE WITH A OLD PAIR OF DRESS SHOES- STAND A DIPER BABY IN THAT -IT'S GREAT
*ANY BALL- COLORED TOLET PAPER, AT CHRISTMAS- A ROLL OF WRAP AND SOME RIBBON.
JUST LOOK AROUND.
