Selling photos by Website

I would like to build a website where I can atually offer my photos for sale via paypal. Does anyone know of a site that offers this photo web building service? Most of the ones I see are more geared towards photoalbums. I also dont want to use HTML or anything time consuming (I spend enough time infront of computer as it is). .Any suggestions?? Thank you

Karen, as a matter of fact these deluxe sites are really good. I havent looked in detail yet but it looks like exactly what I'm looking for (do you get your own web address or is it through betterphoto, eg,www.annphotogrphy. etc..?) However, I must say that $200 per year (US?) sounds a little expensive for my budget. Unless it will pay for itself. It would be nice to know if other photographers have been successful in selling any of their pics here. I will have to really consider price/quality/personal needs etc..

  Ann,
if you get your own website throught BP, then you could use www.annphotography.com(assumeing that it isn't already taken).

  Ann,
Your Website through BP CAN generate sales but not by itself.
Don't expect anyone outside of BP to visit your site without first referring them to it via other venues:..i.e., business cards, ads, word of mouth, etc. (This is true with any website you create.)

The Update Center that comes with the Deluxe Package(s) is easy to navigate and you can customize the features of your site to fit your particular needs.

My site has generated enough interest and sales to warrant an upgrade this year.

Bob, thank you, I discovered that after I asked around people that already have photo websites. I don't have a formal Photos studio and I am not a professional photographer so I was looking for a way to display my pics throught the internet with the goal that maybe one day I will sell a couple of them by internet use only (did I make anyone laugh?) Anyway, it was just a thought. Thank you all

  ANN,
I WENT TO BUILD MY OWN WEB SITE AND USED GODADDY.COM WITCH WAS THE FIRST AND EASIEST WEB SITE TO BUILD.
I HAD A HARD TIME WITH A DESIGER, WHO WOULDN'T UPDATE PORTRAITS( FOR TRACK PHOTO'S THIS WAS NESSIASARY)
IT WAS VERY INEXPENSIVE AND YOU CAN ADD THE DIFFERENT PURCHASE PACKAGES.
HOWEVER, MY SITE WAS TO ADVERTISE MY ON AND OFF SITE PORTRAIT BUSINESS , SO I REALLY HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR SOMETHING MORE ELEBERATE.
I JUST LOOKED AT BOB'S AND IF BP SITES INCLUDE THE "FLASH" PROGRAMS-THAT IS A GREAT BUY!! WHEN YOU PRICE THEM YOU WILL FIND THEY CAN REACH THE $1000'S.
WHAT DO YOU SAY BOB- DID YOU DO THIS YOUR SELF? AND WAS FLASH PROGRAMING A OPTION? AND HOW MUCH DO YOU NEED TO KNOW TO COMPLETE A BP WEB SITE ?
AS YOU CAN TELL BY THE ONE I PUT TOGETHER -I KNOW NOTHING! JUST MAD ENOUGH TO DO ANYTHING BUT SIT STILL!
ANY INFO. IS APRECIATED,THANKS

Hi Ann - I am also researching this, but I also do graphics and some web design myself, so I chose a hosting provider that has all of the necessary items as part of the yearly cost.

I use iPowerweb and they give me sql databases, unlimited email accounts, photo gallery, shopping cart paypal module and many other bonuses for a very reasonable price (less than $150/yr). I have used them for several yrs now and they are very reliable. This is an option only if you are willing to build a site or know someone who can help you set one up on the server. I run a blog and galleries on my server at

  Hi Everyone,
There is a lot of great information in this thread about having your own site. I am not familiar with Godaddy sites or iPowerweb. I can say that Jim and Jay have designed our Deluxe Sites to operate and be maintainable for anyone, (even complete non-techs). You basically have full control over your site: adding/deleting images and categories, naming buttons, updating your homepage, and much more. I will provide a couple of links to the Deluxe Site Q&A page and also the Deluxe Pro Q&A and informational page.

Please let us know if you have any further questions.

Thanks,
Heather Young

  Debby,
If the "Flash" you were referring to is the rotating images on my home page, this option is included with the upgrade to a Deluxe Pro Site.

As Heather mentioned, the site management tools are easy to learn and operate.

THANKS BOB- I DON'T KNOW A THING ABOUT THIS STUFF- YET , I FEEL IT NESISSARY TO HAVE MORE CONTROLL ON THE UPGRADS AND LHOTO ADDITIONS THEN I HAD WITH MY WEB DESIGER( NOT HER FAULT- I WAS HER FIRST PHOTOGRAPHER AND I DON'T THINK SHE KNEW WHAT WAS INVOLVED)
SO I TRYED GODADDY.COM IT LET ME DO IT IN A DAY AT LITTLE MONEY(SO THERE IS SOMETHING OUT THERE) BUT IT IS NOT WHAT I REALLY WANT-MAYBE I WILL EMAIL YOU THIS GUYS SITE-LOVE WHAT HE DID-I THINK YOU WILL TO.
I TALKED HEATHER ABOUT IT AND WILL MOST LIKLY GO THAT WAY- I WAS SO IMPRESSED WITH YOUR WEB SITE.
THANKS AGAIN,
DEBBY

http://www.digitalrailroad.net is a new pro-photographer solution for displaying and marketing your photos. I just did a 30 day free trial -was really easy to use and looks great. Good luck!

  Hi everyone,
Wow, some great information being tossed around here!

As some of you know, I'm both an instructor and staff member here at BetterPhoto ... but interestingly my very first contact with BP came when I bought a Deluxe Web Site! The no-hassle, easy-to-update, and design features are what attracted me, along with the price.

Of course, Bob's site - www.cammphoto.com - is a fantastic example of just what can be done with a BetterPhoto Deluxe Site. In addition, instructor Jim Zuckerman - an active stock photographer - has a Deluxe Site too:
www.corporatefineart.com

Also check out the testimonial page for Deluxe Sites.

Just a few thoughts!
Kerry

Has anyone checked out http://www.clikpic.com/ ?

Its only apr. $50/year and you can display/sell/market your photos and they even handle credit cards/paypal etc. Its the cheapest and nices photo web building site for selling photos I have seen so far.

Only drawback I see, its in England, I don't know how much that matters.

  Hi Ann,

I have done some web design and always use Startlogic, for $90.00 per year you get all this:
# 5000 MEG (5 GIG) of Webspace
# Free Domain Name
# Unlimited e-Mails
# 100 GIG Transfer
# CGI, PHP, Frontpage
# e-Commerce enabled
# Frontpage 2000-2003
# 99.9% Uptime guarantee
# 24/7 Quality Support
# Free Setup

You can use one of their website templates and have a site up and running in about 20 minutes! Although if you want a proffesional site you will be better off with a web designer or doing your own in some thing like Frontpage (I use Dreamweaver and Flash). It does include a photo gallery and paypal shopping cart in with the price.Their support is second to none. Check them out here:
http://www.startlogic.com/prologic.html
Hope this helps.

Regards,
Del

Del, I really appreciate your suggestion. The site looks very interesting and I may even use it for my Accounting business website!!! I will check it out. I know how to use Frontpage but to be honest with you I am looking for a "quicker" method of putting up a website, being and full time accountant and part time photographer and full time mother leaves little time for anything else!!!Thank you so much.

Another option is www.aplus.net...they offer a lot as do the others mentioned in the above responses. It never hurts to shop around. They have a photo gallery plug in that seems pretty simple to use.

This is where I have my site hosted.

Cheers!

  Hello everyone,
In my experiences I believe that BP websites are a great deal. Cheap and easy. I decided to go with other route...purchased web hosting service and designed my site myself. I wanted to learn how to design and host websites. You need a lot of time and patience for that kinda endeavor. I read many books of web design, theory and e-biz. I personally like that stuff...yup I'm sort of a computer geek...enjoy business and of course photography. So it works for me.

About the selling prints:

I previously set up paypal on my site and had the buying options, shopping carts...this and that! And I thought HTML was time consuming!

I recently finished Jim Zuckerman's class "Making Money with your Photography” and learned so much! I highly recommend this class. He taught me so much about the ins and out of the money making side of photography.

Personally I have not had to much success selling prints straight from my website. Most of my sales come from me going to local galleries and gift shops. My website is good to send prospective buyers and show my work off. But the most important thing...you need a high volume of traffic to visit your site. Even then....people might still be reluctant to buy anything directly from your site…in these days of hacking and identity theft!! Also not many people Google photographs for sale or art prints...if they did you would be paying big bucks to Google, Yahoo and MSN for those top ranking spots!!

Rob

Hey, Ann, I recently started an ifp3.com site, and I think you'd like it. I think it's like $300 a year, but it's probably better than what the Deluxe sites offer, and I bet it will more than pay for itself, if you market your photos.
(The first link is from ifp3.com.)

Thank you all. Since I posted my question everyone has been very helpful. The websites here at Better Photo are great but too expensive for my budget. The way ifp3 works is very good but I find the pages don't show my photos well enough, the view seems too small. I went with the British site www.clikpic.com, it is reasonably priced and I have all the control I need. Visit my site at www.alimiphotography.com and please tell me what you think, I would love your input. The site works well for me with those that know where I am but like Rob above mentioned, I don't seem to get much traffic from those I don't know.

I saw your site. It looks great! (Maybe I would charge a little bit more than you, though.)
Yeah, the main reason I like ifp3.com is because it's impossible for anyone to copy the images off the web. I also kind of like the way after it's loaded everything goes fast. But clikpic looks great, too!
I like the Statue of Liberty picture (it's clear and the clouds look cool), but even though you have good POV, it's kind of annoying to look at since the statue is tilted in the picture.

"...because it's impossible for anyone to copy the images off the web."

Unfortunately, for a determined hacker, nothing's impossible. The only sure-fire way to protect them, is to not put them on the web. I haven't looked at it, but chances are they can keep most people from copying them though.

I'm sorry, I didn't really proof read what I wrote. It's not imposable. With the print screen button and some copying and cropping, you can get even an image in flash format copied. HOWEVER - ! ... this is very inconvenient, most people don't know about it (until now, hehe), and the quality finally retrieved is hardly worth using, so I'm not worried. What I meant by "impossible" is there is not file menu or right-click ability to copy the image with.
Hope this clears it up!

Thanks Ariel! clickpick adds a watermark to the images so there is "some" protection. Re the statue of liberty, yeah, well my husband sais he gets dizzy just looking at it!! But it makes ME feel good...so there. :)

I have free internet space with my internet provider so I am looking now to build my own site(maybe use frontpage) so I dont have to pay anyone a yearly fee. But then I don't think I can use paypal.

I think you can add paypal yourself, if you build your own site.
