Proof Portfolios

I was just wondering if anyone knows a good place online to order proof portfolios. I want the type like mpix.com offers (with 4,6 or more photos printed on each page, not the type where you slip a picture in), but I would like them bound someway other than spiral. Any suggestions?

Kimberly . . . have you ever considered just using your gallery for "proofing"? I recently did a Sr. Picture shoot and posted all the edited images in my gallery and it's been a wonderful tool for my clients to see the photos faster and also for future business. What I did with this Sr. Shoot was have her look at the website and CD I burned for her and then I ordered in 4x5 "proofs" for her to actually see.. . Just a thought . .. the proofs she doesn't end up buying I will then just use for my portfolio. . .

Actually that is what I do for most clients and it works great, however, I just did a wedding with over 900 pictures and don't want to upload them all. I realize there is a cost involved with printing a portfolio, but it just seems more professional for a wedding.

You can get proof portfolios at www.prolabexpress.com I have never gotten one but was considering it and they have several covers, pages and sizes to choose from.

Hope this helps,
Tina

I was wondering if anyone has used MPIX & Prolabexpress? Which do you like better?

Can't speak about Prolabexpress, I use MPIX and love their work. My clients also are very satisfied with the product from MPIX. The proof portfolio is beautiful. I ordered one just for examples of my wedding work and clients are impressed to see how their proofs will be presented. They have an impresive turn-around time also. It does take some time naviagting their ordering process and loading the pics, but I don't have to change the file size - A big + where time is concerned. Good Luck.

So, Wanda...when you used the portfolio from MPIX, how did the photos turn out when the proofs are -square-? Did MPIX give you a place to crop or...

Also, which kind did you purchase? The 8x10 or 10x13 and how many pics did you order on one page? Did you feel like the proofs were big enough for the client to see the qualilty?

I use the 10x13's and my pics are not square....I will do 4 to a page if order is small...other wise 6 to a page. I choose a very nice pic - usually one I have corrected in PS for the cover. And yes I think the proofs are big enough to see (esp 4/page), but they also can view them bigger on my website. Will look forward to hearing how this goes for you.

I use ProLab for all my printing, and I would recommend them to anyone. I ordered samples from both Mpix and ProLab when I was deciding, and I thought the printing quality from ProLab was far superior to Mpix. I have ordered the 5x5 proof books...infact, clients who have a order over $400 get one free! You are able to custom design each page with text and several pics, or use the templates they have available. The covers are stiff and glossy, not the flimsy frosted plastic like other places have. Go with ProLab!
