Photography Question

Sandy Landon

Please help me choose photos

I have the opportunity to enter a small community amateur photo contest and I was wondering if anyone could look at my gallery and tell me which photos, if any, I should enter. I would really appreciate all your time. My family is giving me mixed responses and I am so confused. Thank you!

That's one of the things about photos and photography - Very subjective. Everyone has a different opinion... :-)

If I were to pick from your gallery, I would choose - Fishy Face and Fields of Gold...

Thank you for your imput...one question though, why fishy face? I like it because it is my son and I thought it was funny, but I was shocked it was a finalist. I am fairly new to this, so I tend to like photos just beacause they strike me at the time, not because of the technical detail stuff that I am just starting to learn. That is why I like others imput, it helps me learn. Thanks again!!

Thanks sam, the limit is three. By the way, love your sunset photos. I am going to post some of my first attempts at sunsets on my site later.

Also, when entering a photo contest, is it better to choose a "pure" photo or can you use some that have been digitally manipulated. The contest does not specify.

Does the contest have cateogries, like people, flora, macro, etc???
If so, can you enter more than one photos in a category?

People category:
- Down on the farm 2 (sepia tone)
I like the boys expression and with sepia tone, it has the feel of olden.
- Spring's beauty
I like this for its story telling image.

Landscape:
- Simple Life
I like this for its composition and wall hanging qaulity.

If digital manulation is allowed, I would use it for my own benefit.

  Sandy,
You asked - Why fishy face...

Here's is what I would say... It's real, it's a kid being a kid, it comes across as unposed and fun.

You see... I pose people all the time (most of us do), but the photos that come out the best are those "real" photos - where people are just being themselves and enjoying life (or those photos that are depict other aspects of real life). The tell a story beyond what the photo shows... Hope that makes sense... Just my 2 pennies. :-)

Thanks Jon. I agree 100% on the unposed. I love fishy face because it is my son and it makes me laugh. I just did not think that others would appreciate it as much because as far as "technically" great photography, I just thought it might be lacking. I hope that makes sense. I am really grateful for your input though and I am glad you like fishy face. Thanks!
