  Marina -

can you give us some more info? What type camera are we talking about - an SLR with switchable lens or a point and shoot? You say that it cannot pull the zoom in so I am thinking that it might be a P&S. What brand camera? Digital or film? Have you checked the batteries? Even if they are fairly new try switching them out - sometimes this works. What were you doing when this happened? What steps have you already taken to try to make the camera work again? As much info as you can provide will help the folks here to help you.

  Hi Marina -

Okay - so this is a digital P&S camera that appears to be either jammed or something like this. A couple of ideas - have you removed and replaced the media card/stick? I have a little P&S that seems to jam every once in awhile for no apparent reason. Removing and reseting the media card usually makes it work again. 2nd Idea: make sure that the batteries are actually making contact with the elements; open the battery chamber, remove the batteries, check the contacts and make sure that nothing is in the chamber - it is amazing what can get into the chamber without you even noticing; gently (very gently!!) scrape the contacts with your nail (do not use anything but a finger nail and be gentle!!) and replace the battery. If none of this helps you may have to take the camera to a camera shop and have them figure out what is happening. Hopefully someone here will know much more about this particular camera and can offer more help. Good luck!
