Photography Question

Photo discussions, how to get more

I just wondered why I do not get much photo discussions on my entries. I understand some are not that great but I would like friendly comments whether good or bad. Also, I have never had and any comments from judges.... Do they really see all of the entries? Just my thought for the day. Have a great week end.....

Anita, I think sometimes to get more comments, you have to give more. I have found that by commenting on others, they will then look at my gallery and comment. The same is treu for me. If someone comments on my photo, I usually go to their gallery to see what they have. I really like your gallery, and I think you have some great photos. Hope this helps!

I just caught you on Stacy's thread about Kerby's thread. You should get a lot of comments on that thread.

Kerry and Sandy, thanks so much. I just would like to know what people think, good or bad. You can't fix something if you don't know its broken. thanks again

Anita, I have the same problem. I do think that the more you contribute, the more contributions you will receive. But, I've tried that too to little avail. I looked at your gallery and I think your composition in just about all of your photographs is great. There are two that I really like. They were both taken during either dusk or dawn. Can't remember. As for the rest of your pictures, the only thing that you could improve is the light. But, that's hard to change unless you walk around with a reflector or portable lights every time you take a picture, right? Bear in mind, this advice is coming from a fellow amateur who is still trying to figure out the light thing herself. Hope this helps.

Thank you so much for all of your comments. Yes Benica I have noticed a lighting problem some times, and that is one area that I am not totally satified with the digital 35mm. I didn't have that problem to much with my film photos. You have some really great shots as well. Congrates on your finalist photo, thats a great job.

Anita you have some really good photos in your gallery. I agree the more you contribute the more poeple look at your work. You also must remember with 18000
photos a month it is easy for your photo to be missed. I think some time it maybe because of the time you upload you photos. I don't have alot of photos that I upload so I think it is easy to be missed no matter how good they are.
I hope you do not give up hope and keep butting photos on the site. Some of your photos are really good and it is only a matter of time before you will be seen.

So bump a nose and have some fun
Dr Silly

you have some wonderful photos in your gallery.. I also love your sense of humor in titeling.. I like the idea and composition of the flag with the horses but I would have used less saturation on the flag..

Thanks Brigitte, I looked at your gallery and you also have some great shots. I love "old" things so the vehicles really caught my eye, and could not make up my mind which I liked the best. They are all great.

thanks anita, finding those old cars was truly serendipitous. I was driving up my road looking for unusual doors to shoot and came across the whole yard full of them..

You might try getting together with others who upload around the same time of day as you. If you tend to upload at the same time every day, you can find your own little "group". Some people have so many they swap comments with, they don't have time for any more even if they'd like to. You have a start here also, check with some of the people who have answered this thread and have them watch for your shots.Good luck!!

Wow Carolyn, I just looked at your gallery and EVERY ONE of your photos are winners. Did you delete the ones that weren't? Or have you won every photo? How do you do that? Have you taken any of the classes? I have thought that to get your photo noticed that you have to take one on the sites classes. Don't get me wrong every one of your photos are GREAT! You should be proud. Would like to know your thoughts on some of my photos. Have a good day, and thanks for the response to my question.

I wish they were all winners! I have a big gallery (www.pickyourshots.com), so I keep only the finalists in my premium gallery due to the limited space, and before the recent upgrade it was very time consuming to even get into it, so once a month was entirely enough for me. LOL. No, I've not taken any classes, but have learned a lot by asking questions of those who have! Most everyone will take the time to answer you.

I'm in the same boat as you Anita, I wish I got more comments on my photos as well, but after reading what everyone has said on here I will have to try and become more active with my comments on other peoples photos!!!

I always welcome very hard critiques on my photos, I dont want people to sugar coat them on my account, I just want it as it is!!!

But I think you are much more advanced in photography than I am based on your photographs, You have so many great shots in your gallery!!!

Keep up the good work!! =)

collette, I love your baby pics .. on the vertical mother and child ones i'd do more cropping on the sides and put all the focus on the images.. you have a good eye for composition but your flowers look a little blurry or fuzzy.. are you using a macro setting?

Thanks Brigitte, and yeah I have a lot of people tell me that they look fuzzy, but I think its because I scan them in, they arent fuzzy when I look at the actual photograph, but maby its my eyes!!

and yes I do use the macro settings on my lens.

i have never been happy with any pics that I scanned once I went from the old hand held to a box scanner.. my old scan man gave me exactly what I saw when I looked at actual pic..
now, when I do film, I order a cd along with the prints..

Hi everyone. I have been frustrated with the contest, too. I keep hearing about "commnents from the judges". What does that mean? I don't think I have ever received one. Does it really matter what TIME I enter? Would love some feedback from someone regarding my work. Thanks a bunch.

Lorri, I have never gotten any comments from the judges either. I think that since they get SOOOOO many entries, that they can only comment on so many, and they probly choose the ones with the most noticable things to comment on, such as crooked horizons or thing needing to be cropped out etc.

As far as your gallery, I think its great, espesially your flower shoots!!!

As you've already discovered from the previous posts, you will receive more comments as you comment more yourself. As to the part where the judges comment...I am certain the judges see every photo entered. I have no doubt of that at all. They just couldn't possibly comment on all of them.

Well I was feeling like you all, and so I took some time and looked at everyone's galleries and made some comments. I really enjoyed browsing. There is sure alot of talent on this site. I know it makes my day to get that email saying someone made a comment. So I hope I made someone happy this evening! :)

Hi Anita- Just wondering if you are seeing more comments? You sure are taking great pictures! I haven't seen an increase even though I comment on 15 or so a day. It's definately alot more give than recieve. Keep up the good shooting! Kelly

Thanks Kelly, and as always you are as well. I know what you mean, it seems the only emails I ever get are on the ones that I have commented on, not mine. It's weird, the ones I think are good no one else does. Like the one I did today of my daughter, I thought it was beautiful and no comments. O well, guess its better to give then receive. Thanks again, Anita

Hi Brigitte--thank you for the kind comments. I us Microsoft Digital Img. Suite (not ps) and yes, I usually go in and play with exposure/lighting/color saturation. I love trying out filters--I think they are fun.
I used the Subtle Emboss filter on the kitty nap (Purrfecting the 24 Hour Kitty Nap) photo. I also cropped it.
