MATERNITY SHOOT

I wanted to ask any of those who have ever done a maternity shoot for some tips. I have seen the white cloth that some of the women are wearing. What is that, and how do they put it on? Also, any other tips would be appreciated....on composition, angle, clothing etc. Thanks in advance!

  Hey Deb,
I personally love these types of sessions. The white cloth can be a sheet or a piece of satin or even a big white towel, what ever you have and prefer.I prefer a low light and a soft focus for these myself. And as far as clothes prety much thats what ever you can get them to do-some will really get into it and some women just want simple street clothes and thier kids hugging thier tummy.
I have shot these in the above and of course a silky night gown- a plain white cotten gown is great- a man big white shirt( then you can also shoot it open.
All Portraits should be shot at a slight angle from the back ground-they are the same-if you shoot them straight anyway you wount get the effect you desire.Use as many angles and positions as possible- if you can use the floor do so-if she has other kids, well then take some of her lying with them and them listening to her tummy or kissing her bare tummy.
these are all about the love it took and the love this child is coming into.
just keep all this in mind.
It's 5:30 and I can't think of the gallery I want to also suggest but I'm sure I will later or that she will chime in-let me have a cup of coffee and get back to that-it's a cute gallery and she does really good maternity work also.
until then- I do hope this helps,
Debby Tabb

Just a precursor... I am not an expert, just started with this hobby, but I did do a photoshoot for my friend and it turned out pretty good. I had great results with window light. It gave the belly great curves. As far as clothes, she put on a shrug backwards. It was perfect because it came right above the belly. I like the shots of her at angle best. I hope this helped some.
