Photography Question

Amy Anderson

Help me fix this portrait!

I have this beautiful portrait of my son's friend- cute pose, beautiful backdrop, pretty lighting. The one problem- the bench in the background that the parents insist I use that seems to be growing out of the little girl's shoulders. Please! Can anyone please help me edit that bench out? Step-by-step Photoshop hints would be great. THANKS!

Amy. I think it's a beautiful portrait of a beatiful little girl. She looks great. I think it is a just a fad that all images need to be photoshopped into "perfection" . Unless it is purely as an educational addventure on your part, why bother getting rid of the bench? Her parents like the bench. We all know benches don't grow out of children' heads. I don't think it's worth the effort to PS it out. It was there, and you did a good job of positioning her against it. I agree that it's not the ideal prop, to my eye, it's not so bad as to merit such drastic measures. But just from looking at the thumbnail here, I think it looks fabulous. (If it were mine I would maybe crop it horizontally on the bottom). Anyway, that's just me. I don't think there's anything wrong with something relatively harmless, like this. in a paortrait. Nice job, Amy.

I took just a little bit more time would need to be spent due to hair being a very detailed job that you do want to do well...
but here is the bench cloned out using CS2 cloning tools...

oh I did do a curve on here & upped the saturation a bit, added sparkle to her eyes, unsharp mask...

okaz all the crazy mix up with this I think I have it deleted from contest entry now... I have no clue as to why it was like that... but it only shows in Q&A now in my gallery reply...
sorry Amy for it going into the contest I surely didn't mean for that to happen...

Jill :)

  Hi Amy -

I am just purchasing my first backdrop, and I just got a Canon Dig. Rebel XT for my birthday. I love it. So, I am new at this.

What type of / how many lights (maybe even one over the subject's head) and if so how many?

Or do you just use the flash from your camera on something like this picture of this little girl, Madison?

Thanks!
-Carla
