Taking a picture of glossy item w/no shine

I need to take pictures of flat (wall clocks) items that are glossy. To prevent glares, some one suggested spraying the item with a matte finish of
some kind. Sounds like a good idea to me, but who am I. Tried it, worked great, but haven't found anything that can be cleaned off the clock. So still searching. Hoping there is some wonderful product out there that I need to know about. Thanks, Paula

Try a polarizing filter instead, it will remove reflections from non-metalic surfaces, and may give you what you want.
