picture.com I submitted a picture to picture.com and I recieved a letter telling me I had been picked for publication. They asked me to pay $65.00 for the book at a cheaper price then normal and then like a 25 or so fee to put in a little story about myself. Of course I was totally excited because this is my first time for ever winning ( or so I thought). Well now I start reading all this stuff you guys have been saying about them and I am starting to worry. What should I do? I paid this money to them and they said that the book called "Endless Journeys" was to be published in September. Please help me I am so confused now. DeAnn Jones

If you've already sent them money, there's not much you can do. What they're doing is not illegal. Just get on with your life, and eventually, the book will probably show up. Probably not in September, though. I think it depends on how long it takes them to get enough people to order the book. (They only publish pictures from people who order.)

That's right. I think they have to wait til they get enough people to pay them so they can publish it. I'm glad I'm cheap or I might have fallen for it myself back in the day. LOL

No, it isn't right, even though it is legal. However, to help ameliorate your feelings of anxiety, if you send me $20.00, I can help you show off up to 30 of your photos to an even greater audience. ......................................... OK, I am just kidding about the $20.00. Right here on BetterPhoto, you can create a FREE gallery with up to 30 images. It will be seen by all the folks here. Plus, you can bookmark the address for your gallery and send it to all your friends and they can see your work on the WEB! If you need help in creating your free gallery or you need help in finding the address once you have created it, just ask the friendly folks here for help and many will be glad to help. By the way, if you think this advice is really worth $20.00, give $20.00 to your church in honor of this wonderful site.

Ok so now I am scared that if I put 30 diffrent pictures on here is there anyway someone can steal those photos and use them for their own. On the picture.com website under find photos there is a picture exactly like mine and it is under someone elses name and titled diffrently. This has totally scared me from entering anymore contest. I got a email last nite about another picture I entered and it said it was picked for publication in a diffrent book. I don't know if I trust anyone else.

I wouldn't worry too much about that here. If you are really worried about that, you can always copyright the images at the U S Copyright Office and, if someone else uses your images, you can sue them for damages. Whatever you do, don't pay someone to publish your photos. If they really want to publish them, they should be paying YOU.

DeAnn, Follow the instructions for sizing your pictures, including reducing the resolution to 72dpi before you upload them. The pictures will look good on the website, but will not print clearly at any useful size. If someone takes them, they won't be able to do much with them.
