best 300 mm zoom for Rebel XT I would like to get a ~300 mm zoom for my new rebel XT. I am not tied to brands, but I would like some feedback on what would be the best bang for the buck. I am looking closely at the Canon 70-300 IS that sells for $400 on B&H Photo. Does anyone have any reason to say this is not a good lens or that I should consider something else (plus or minus $50)? Thanks in advance for all opinions. If anyone knows of a specific comparison of this lens with others, please reply with links. Stuart

I use the Tamron 28-300 on my Canon 20D. it is wonderful, and compact. I have several show winners with this combo. About $400 at wolf camera.

I have the lens that you are looking at with the usm and the 4 - 5.6 range bought it at best buy for 585.00 and I love it .... all of the cat pictures in my gallery were taken with this lens.....hope this helps D.J.
