best dig. cam. for under 300.00

okay, here goes. my wife is pregnant so naturally I want a good dig. cam. to take pictures of the baby and family. I have been researching and it seems that most people consider their camera to be the best. I think I have it narrowed down to Sony DSC-W1, Canon A95, Nikon Coolpix 5200, and Fuji E550. I am leaning towards the fuji but need reassurance. this will be my first dig. cam. any help will be greatly appreciated.

It is hard to say which one is better than the other. If I were you, I will look at which one has a higher resolution, a better OPTICAL zoom range, more comfortable control layout, larger LCD, has a rotatable LCD and of course, which one looks more sexy ;)

Optical zoom is important - you will be feeling pretty disappointed with a 3x optical zoom.
Did you consider the Fuji S5100? 10x zoom? I have its predecessor and love it. I've read a few negative things about the 550. Did you do you research at the review sites? www.dpreview.com, Steve's digicams, etc...

Sounds to me like you want a great camera for family shots. I don't think you need the large optical zoom range. It will increase your need to steady the camera even more. I believe you want a reliable camera, great pictures and easy to operate to capture those great moments of having a baby.
I would recommend the Canon. Even the CAnon A510 (3.2mp & only $199) will take great snapshots of Junior and is so easy to operate and view the photos immediately.
I have turned at least 4 friends on to this Canon line (A70, A75, A510) and they all love them.
Go check it out and see how easy it is to hold in one hand and operate.
