Photography Question

thanks everyone for your praise

one of the many crisp shots were done with a set lens, but I had to take quite a few to get them perfect. The camera is so fast, sometimes I didn't even see that they blinked, but with such a big burst it helps alot to machine gun it.
Well Im a US citizen now and will be starting up my own studio. I begged my husband to set me up 2yrs ago with all of the equipment, but he wouldn't budge. Now that we are getting a divorce , I will use my %50 to buy an old warehouse and all the equipment.

well, I already have half the equipment(camera & lens wise), just waiting for the lawyers to do their deals. Thanks for wishing me luck, even though I don't believe in it. Hard work and being in the right place at the right time works best for me

I don't want a divorce, but I really do want my new equipment. Maybe I'll just have to be extra nice to the hubby!!

I almost fell laughing out of my chair too, when I noticed on another thread that Dr. Evil had a sex change and renamed him/herself to Tamara Lynn.

the Dr.Evil thing was just a joke. Which Ive learned that I can't joke until the 1 year anniversary
Hey Susan
I didn't want a divorce, but my husband got selfish after we got married. He had the money, but didn't feel he had to spend it on me anymore. I started painting and decorating new born baby rooms to get my equipment. I started going to PPA meetings and he thought I just went to meet other guys (insecure). I started photographing more and saw him less. Then I suggested if the photostudio was in our house Id always be home, but he was stubborn and thought it was a waste of money and time. Well I m booking at least once a week and occasionally 2times. Renting a warehouse that I would love to buy.
I'll get some more pics up ASAIC(as soon as I can)

I'm sorry Tamara, that didn't come right. It's really a shame that he didn't want to support you. That is what marriage is about. You are going to be a big success and can't wait to see more from you :)

You are a big success Susan, you've got the eye. May I suggest that you work with as many photographers as possible. I am working with some professionals and I learn something new every day. And they learn a few things from me as well (which I didn't think was possible). I will email you a fantastic forum site, because you deserve it

Oh, Tamara, you go to PPA meetings? Then you must know Sara.

But then again, of course you do.

Susan - Tamara, Sara Mitchell, Dr. Evil, they are all the same guy who keeps playing games and changing his name. Ford, No Name, Justin, Savy, Slick Digital, etc. All the same person.

I'm really wondering if the person behind all of these accounts actually took any of these pictures that he has put in these galleries. Some of them are good images. It's a shame he can't just be himself and take credit for them.

Maybe he just swiped them from other people.

He uploaded one image I remember that was probably his own. It was a portrait of a bride on a cliff in Hawaii. Very nice image, although the whites of the dress were a bit blown out.

All the other images have been uploaded as other "characters", so who's to say they're actually his?

notice the trend here, the men are very rude. They can't stand it when women take over the market which they once dominated. They are only nice when they want something
by the way, I found the Forum about Sara being in PPA, but that is an association. Im in PPA(America) of Atlanta, GA and attend once a year in New York. Being a member, insures me that if my equipment fails I can get a loaner without a problem. Also if I get sick, a photographer(s) can sub for me. You can only become a member if your work appears in Magazines and the board agrees to let you in.

hows the career coming, I got some wedding pictures this weekend that'll make you cry. Every time I look at them I do. The couple will be so happy when they get back from their honeymoon. I just got a 50mm 1.4, if you don't have it(get it). Makes great shots and is so light.

I thought only the African frogs in Jurassic Park could change genders but I guess now Tamara (Dr. Evil) can do it. Please tell us how, it'll give you something else to brag about with your fast camera you can't see when you blink and the new 50mm. and those wedding pics that are gonna make us cry, they probably would be better if you had the guts to put them online but I doubt you ever did take them.

I know this isnt really on the subject, but always wondered, whats to keep someone from scanning in say a picture from a book, or calender or something that was taken by someone else, and then claiming that they are theres putting them in there gallery, and entering them into contests and such?

just courious!!!!

I can't tell if there is more than 3 people on this thread. Most of the conversation is all the same person.

This is the weirdest message board I have ever seen. It would be nice if the owners got a little more restrictive about who can contribute and post here.

I hope they don't Joe. You can make a comment or two to this guy or about him and then just wait. Before long, he will be talking to himself through different sign-in names he has, especially if he can't get a reaction out of anyone else.

  Joe –

Don’t despair! Sure, things can get weird here, and even sometimes nasty. The Internet, by its very nature, can bring out the best in people, but, it can also bring out the worst. After about a year coming to BP I have figured out that about 95% of people who post here on a regular basis are great people who are genuinely interested in “talking imaging” and helping others learn and grow in their craft. The other 5% seem hell bent on convincing others of how amazing they are as photographers; lying to others; insulting people and basically behaving in ways that are destructive. From my experiences on other websites – both those about photography and those concerning other subjects – this 95/5 percentage is really good!

I participate in a monitored forum that can get really nasty and ugly despite the fact that posts are supposed to be approved by a moderator prior to being released for general reading. I have recently given up on that forum because I have enough nastiness in my “real time” life without having to experience nastiness online. On BP I can choose to ignore the bad because, at least in my experience, there is so little of it and most that I would term bad is only mildly irritating.

Don’t go away, just ignore the occasional irritant and focus on the positive communications that are the rule here.

A scan from a book isn't going to look as good as a scan from a neg/slide or a direct digital picture.
And only guessing, but I think even if you save a picture from another site, there is something in the file name that remains in it that says something about where it came from. But that dosen't mean, even if what I said is true, that it's being looked for.
But there isn't anything that's stopping somebody from doing it or trying. Even the real deterent for any rule breaking or law breaking isn't laws, cops, getting caught. If you think about it it's really mainly people deciding it's something that's not right for them to do.

Irene, you are really on the ball. No nastiness here though, just having fun. There are people that go by the book and if its not in text, then you can't do it.
About the scaning or copying, I heard from someones entertainment lawyer that if you change a picture by 10% there is nothing you can do about it. Most professionals know how to secure their pictures I hope.
Just what I heard, not a factoid

"No nastiness here though, just having fun."

Your idea of fun is more than mildly irritating, in my opinion.

If you want anyone here to take you seriously, or even believe anything you say try a few suggestions:

1. Use your real name, instead of making up new ones every few days. It's not a security risk, no one's asking for your SS# here. People don't want to talk and share with a character, they want a person.

2. Don't keep bragging about expensive equipment that you have or wish you had. I'm more impressed with an eager kid who makes a stunning image with the budget camera she could afford, than with someone who makes wild claims of his exploits with pro gear, but doesn't really show his work.

3. Be yourself. Be honest. Don't pretend to be someone you're not, or that you've done something you haven't. People here will accept you no matter who you are or what you do, as long as you are honest. By now you should know that we can the difference.

Is that really asking too much?

I think that if you did what chris just sugested then we could all get along. And no Chris that's not asking too much. Also your idea of fun is very rude. And no one likes someone who brags all the time, so quit starting threads like this one.

Personally Tamara (or whatever your real name may be) people don't like being "toyed" with. Also they really don't enjoy being made a fool. The work that was posted under "Tamara's" gallery was very nice and I was very happy that someone enjoyed my own work. But then I find out you may not be who you say you are. I felt bad and made a public apology for words in this thread. It wasn't meant to be hurtful I was "just joking as well" but when you seemed to take offense, I apologized. Probably for nothing I find out now, but still I am an adult and I act like a responsible human being.
I'm am 100% sure that the "GUYS" here are not rude, they are just aware of your game and they're tired of playing. They are looking out for the others who haven't quite caught on yet.

On another note...
Gregory, I've noticed in your gallery that you've taken swimmers shots. Would you have any advice. My daughter is a swimmer and I've posted a few shots here on BP. I am going to a meet on Saturday and would since I finally got my SLR (yippee!) I'm going to try for some shots during the meet. It will be held outdoors. Thanks in advance!
Susan

Susan, are they working on you?
I took down my gallery because I got some rude remarks about some great photos (which had nothing to do with the pictures). Also some sexual reamarks since they finally got to see what I look like.
This isn't rehab and Im not trying to start a fan club. Also Im not pulling things out of the air.

I work every day, and with many different photographers (Shawn, Braden, Kyle, Dennis, Barbara and Georgia). I assist Moday thru Friday (fashion, food, hotels, products...whatever) and on the weekend(usually Saturday) shoot weddings. So Im actually doing the work, not reading about it ( Im learning by doing it). I listen to their discusions and take notes. I spend countless hours going through pics and noticing my mistakes.
So if you think Im messing with any of you, you're wrong, its just talk. If you tell me Im wrong, thats you're opinion. If it didn't work for me then I wouldn't put it out there.

Don't know about anyone else, but I have *NEVER* seen a picture in any one of the multiple personality suffer's galleries.

To that matter, I haven't seen any rude comments about his/her/its photos or comments about his/her/its appearance, sexual appear or lack thereof.

I have seen the same person claim to have the Canon 1Ds Mark II, claim to be getting one from a family member, and ask if it was a good camera.

I have seen the same person relate a story about working for a wedding photographer and having taken a lot of weddings in Hawaii and California, then ask questions about how to photograph a wedding. Now in Atlanta, GA.

I have seen the same person claim to have a photoshoot with a celebrity, doing it for free.

Now this person, claiming to be female, is going to buy a warehouse and all the equipment to open a studio.

It isn't humerous. It isn't entertaining. It takes away from the betterphoto experience. His/her/its account was deleted once.. all the mulitple personality accounts should be removed as well.

Think someone from BP should call his/her/its mommy and have the child's internet access removed.

Robert

oh they were pleasant about it Robert, they did it in the discusion under my photos, so no one else could see it, unless they went there.
Im the class clown, but even as Ive been pleasant people always have to comment and can't refrain from being overly or hitting that ignore button that's so famous.
I'll state again that I never put down anyones photos or told them that they didn't know how to take pictures. Just stories I hear from the photgraphers I work with mixed in with a few of my own. Ummmmmmmmm KAY

You know people – sane people, that is – if the goal is to get conversations back into the realm of imaging instead of these futile, irritating and often infantile digressions the secret is to refuse to engage. Simply stop engaging with this individual. Let her/him post under as many names as s/he pleases. Let him/her brag about his/her photo exploits and the wonderful equipment owned. Who gives a **** what this person owns/doesn’t own; the kinds of images s/he produces or anything else? There are some really good people here – not just good photographers (there are plenty of them also!) but, good people who seem to really care, not just about their craft, but about helping others to grow in theirs. Let this person rant and rave; lie and brag and carry on in whatever way s/he will. It doesn’t need to take away from the BP experience unless we let it. Ignore the posts, ignore the verbal throw downs and attempts to engage in verbal battles and s/he might just go away. At any rate, there will be fewer rewards for his/her behavior.

  Irene,
I've said this before, I wish that we could just ignore S/He, but the problem is by the time we figure out who S/He is, they've already got half a dozen new names we don't know about.

Tamara,
if you are telling the truth and they were so nasty, then why don't you sue them for sexuall harassment? I'm sure if it's true then the BP management would be more than happy to assist you. Also why don't you quit this poor poor picked on me attitude. The reason that you're the class clown is because you made yourself the class clown.

Irene, I made the same suggestion several weeks ago, and for a while it seemed to work. But this character keeps starting threads and answerering them him/herself with multiple names. Then others, who don't know of this person will respond as Susan did earlier in this thread. If folks like Chris and Brendan didn't keep exposing this guy, people would just keep falling for this line of ****, and the nonsense will never end. (though I am beginning to think it never may)

To the BP staff: if you're reading this, could I suggest making it impossible to change names in a profile, and also not allow new accounts under a previously used email address. This might help a bit.

Rob those are some good sugestions to BP management. Also it was mostly Chris that exposed S/He. People like Kerry and me just helped. Another suggestion to BP management, there might be a way to block this persons ISP(Kind of like blocking someone's phone number). I'm not sure how, but I'm pretty sure you can. So Jim & Staff I think that this is something that you should look into.

Okay – I get it that this rather pathetic person can keep coming back under yet another assumed id and that s/he can spin a line of BS from now into eternity. But, I suspect that the real reward this person receives is not in deceiving some new comer into believing that s/he is a great photographer who knows all the answers and who is “slumming” by deigning to share his/her much greater experience and knowledge with we poor peasants. I suspect that the reward comes from provoking good people such as Kerry, Chris and Brendan into verbal sparring matches.

I remember reading one of the first posts I saw from this person – (I have no idea how long this has been going on, I first started reading these threads this spring). The poster was trying to convince people that s/he was a great photographer because s/he owned – or was buying, or was using, whatever – the Canon Mark II. I had to laugh when I saw this line, it was just so pathetic. My neighbor’s son is a photographer for National Geographic. When he comes to visit his mother he usually comes over and we talk photography. Earlier this spring, when I was trying to figure out the digital thing, he graciously took me out into the field and let me use his Canon Mark II. While it was fun using such a powerful camera, the results I achieved were no different than the results I achieve using my Konica-Minolta 7D. On the other hand, the results he achieved using my camera were better than what I achieved using his camera. You would have to be pretty in-experienced and pretty gullible to really believe that equipment makes one either a pro or not. Good equipment will help you improve your skills, but only if along with the equipment comes knowledge and experience. As for the tales this person spreads – they are also pretty transparent as attempts to impress and mislead. Even those who are new to photography and to this site will, I think, fairly quickly recognize who is for real and who is simply blowing smoke.

It took some people almost half of this thread to realize it was Dr. Evil(new nickname for S/He) that started it. He can be very tricky and can keep people in the dark for quite a while when he wants.
