How to Create a Copyright using Photoshop Elements

I am trying to create a photo Copyright through the use of watermark.
I am attemping this using the book by
Scott Kelby, "The Photoshop Elements 3 Book For Digital Photographers" but just can't seem to get copyright symbol after following the instructions. I would appreciate any help along these lines gratefully.

Oh, yes I am using Photoshop Elements 3 Program.

When I copyright my images I'm not sure I watermark them per say . . . click on the text option. Place the cursor where you want the symbol to be and hold down the alt key and enter 0169 and you get the copyright symbol . .. © you can then go in and adjust the opacity of it if you don't want it fully visible and you can resize it to whatever size you need/want and place it in a place so that if they copy the photo they cannot crop it off without losing vital photo parts!

Michelle following your suggested instructions word for word I still cannot get the Copyright symbol using Photoshop Element 3. What might I be doing incorrect. I click on the type T tool in the tool bar click in the image and hold down the Alt key and type 0169 but no Copyright Symbol. The Opacity is at a 100%. I am suppose to use an image? correct.

hmmmmm . .. yes you need an image open . . . you might check and see what color your font is? if you are trying to do it on a white background and your text is white? . . . are you getting ANYTHING when you enter text? The only other thing I can think of is perhaps the font you are using might not correspond with this function but I don't think that would be it . . . or perhaps your font size maybe??? are you holding down the ALT key while you type 0169 and is your number lock turned on if you are using your numbers keypad?

those are the only suggestions I can think of!
