Contest judges comments

I might be the only one, but I do not like the new contest judges comments. What is the point of the contest if you know already ahead of time which image will be in and which will not. All discussions are now around the images which were commented by the judges (200 and more on some). Also some people seem to misunderstand it as critics, which is not the case. These are comments and no critics, because the one sentence is not very helpful, it is either positiv or negativ, in my eyes a sorting comment. And now the people want more (i.e why do these images have no comments or why did this image not make it).
Just my comment on these comments.

  Hi Thomas.

I agree with you to a point. I mentioned in my thread (Gregory may have mentioned it above) the other day that I wasn't overly thrilled about the way it's being done. I believe it would be much more beneficial to critique a photo here and there - random photos each day. However, what's happening apparently is that the first round of judging is that you're judged against yourself. In other words, the judges take a look at all of your entries for the month and start weeding out from there. But by taking a look at the entries each day, you can probably already tell who will at least make finalist. I love the idea, don't get me wrong, but I thought the process would be much more random than it is now.

Hi Kristie, Thanks for your input and interest in the new Judges Comments. However, I need to correct your assumption in this thread. The first round of judging is not done by member. Please take a look at Jim's prior post: http://www.betterphoto.com/forms/QnAdetail.php?threadID=17139

Also, here is an excerpt:

"Here's the truth: many judges review your photos, during several rounds. During one round, your photos are bundled so that all photos by one member are together. At this time, we can select your best work, and we can weed out the duplicates and similars that some contestants enter."

Of the many judging rounds, only one is done by viewing the members collective work.

I do want to point out that the judges comments are done in this exact manner: the many judges pick photos here and there through the many rounds and making quick comments.

Thanks,
