To use a filter or not?
I took this image for a local photo contest and I love the "hidden tucked away" feel, which is what I was going for. As I was fixing the image up in PS7 I noticed a light filter in which you can apply, so I added this light filter and I do like the filter image more. Everyone else I ask about it (Non-Photographers) like the orginal image better. Please let me know what real photographers think. Thanks!

Not saying that I am a real photographer....but I like the filtered one the best. Good luck in the contest.

I understand why the filtered image is preferred, you are drawing attention to the "hidden" home, but I don't like what the filter did to the sky. I wonder how it would look if you did some adjustment layers with selective coloring? So for now I'll vote on the un-filtered version. I really love the location, wouldn't mind living there at all!!

Try this: 1. Crop out the sky. It really adds nothing to either image - at least not to me. 2. Crop the bottom of the photo just below where it becomes dark. This should leave enough of the darkness around where you filtered to draw the attention of the viewer to the house, yet leave enough of the leaves to frame it and show the isolation.

The Image Needs Cropped For Composition Before Any Filters Are Considered,That May Change The Appearance Enough To Be Able To Decide What It Needs Next!Hope That Helps.

Thank you so much for your advice, Susan, after I posted the images and looked at them side by side I too noticed the sky, and it didn't look too good, so I fixed up the sky, then kerry suggested to just crop it out, which ended up being so much better. I fixed up the image a bit, can you let me know what you think now with the changes.

Hidden Treasure
This image was captured at a local nature park for a photo contest. I added a light filter to the image to create more of a hidden feel, in PS7. I also cropped the image because of some advice from fellow BP members.

So much better...I think Terry and Kerry were right about cropping the image. It really helps to focus your eye on the house! Looks lovely, good luck in the contest! now I just need help on my question about photographing swimmers! Maybe Terry and Kerry can wander over that way ;)
