three complimentary colors used in printing what are the three complimentary colors used in printing?

As I understand it, complimentary colors are direclty across from each other on the color wheel. Color negative film has three layers of emulsions, Cyan, magenta, and yellow. None of these three are complimentary to each other though. Could you explain your question in more detail?
