Everyone "wins" at photo.com sadly. You do have an amazing image! You will always continue to win as long as you pay for items "engravings" or "shipping" or whatever. Also remember that if an item retails for a certain price that the person giving the award bought it for much cheaper. So, they are still making money off of you. If you seriously won, you shouldn't have to pay for anything, especially your prizes.

It really is a beautiful shot. it is a shame you had to pay for your own prize though.

You know, you really should enter that photo in other contests, like here or with some of the photo magazines. You may win or you may not but it won't cost you anything if you do win. Believe me, I've seen pictures that weren't as good win contests.

I think the key here is that if it is a "prize" then you shouldn't have to pay . . .

I agrfee. The problem with vanity press publications is that the really good pictures, like Yvonne's, are lumped in as winners with some that really aren't that good.

Yea, too bad that betterphoto doesn't have a book that comes out every 5 years featuring the best of the best. That might be neat. Just a thought....
Bad one???? any thoughts????

This prize is like a little trophy each little leager gets at the end of the baseball, soccer, or football season. Everyone gets one because the parents have already paid the fee including the trophy.

This one, you pay a lot more to get little bigger prizes. After all you have grown up, you will not be satisfied with just one little trophy...
And you have to pay your own, not your parents...

Melissa, you have a good point.

But it has to be thought out very carefully to do this, because you will also paying to get the book. I do not wish to see it talked about in the same group as other scam companies...

I don't know how many people is aware of Darren's book that a bunch of photographers got together to create the book. This was all for good cause, but we have to have enough people to buy it to make the book available for purchase.

It just seems to me that there should be a credible way to make a book like this. Even If you have each photographer discribe how they did each shot ex. to offer some expertise and knowledge or other info to inform. Like a write up. There are a lot of Photographers here on this site that have already had books published that have the connections they could offer something in connection with a loop with one of their books I don't know 'brain storm'. It just seems like the likely thing to do with so many good photos.
