While I'm not Hawaiian,...I do enjoy photographing insects when I can.
Autumn is the best time, since where I live...it's "seasonal", and most species have reached adulthood by then and are quite large.

One of my fav's is the wheel bug,..a nasty member of the assassin bug family.
They are fairly common here in the Eastern Piedmont and Appalacian regions of the US. I have many great macros of these guys on film with and without prey.
Other favorites include the hummingbird moth and robber flies,...both of which can be a real challenge to photograph in flight.

I'm looking forward to getting "bugged out" this summer.

cool, thanks for the response. I was wondering if u might be able to capture a specimen or two of the wheel bugs for me? I am always trying to get a hold of new specimens for my collection(which has exceeded 375 specimens) Though the Hawai'ian law prohibits import of live insects, so it would have to be preserved in rubbing alcahol or some other preserving chemical. I have always wanted one for my collection, but have never lived in their region. I would be glad to pay for the shipping and Handling(as long as it isn't 2outrageously high, lol)
thank you,

David

  David,
...Not quite sure I want to delve into bug smuggling. (just kidding).

Wheel bugs,..(and other species) are fascinating to me alive.
I would feel a little guilty killing one for any reason,...(unless they bit me.) ;)

Good luck with your future career in Entomology.

Bob
