Photography Question

picture.com

Shortly after I sent you a request as to how to file a suit against picture.com and International Library of Photography, my prize package showed up.

So they actually do give out the prizes and it takes a bit longer than what they say to receive them.

So the prizes are real.

Did you have to pay like 300$? Or was it free?

So they are legit????? Cuz one of mine was chosen too. I really would like to have a book that shows my work..but if they aren't legit, then I don't want to lose any money!

Yes, they are "legit" so to speak. You can pay your money and they will publish it, eventually. However, be aware that this is a "vanity press". You are simply paying to have your photo published, along with a lot of other people. From what I understand, the prints are very small and ALL who pay are selected for publication, regardless of the quality of the photo. Save your money.

Thank you! I am looking into other venues for publishing my own book. How do you find contests that are real, besides the one that BP offers?

What is meant by "real"?. I dont know that BP is real either if you are wanting to be published somewhere. My impression is that this is just a site for "funsies" and you can win another membership or a camera bag. I never saw anywhere on bp where they can get you noticed or published by anyone serious.

  Well John,
There are pro photographers here and probably alot of other people who could get you published. So there are probably people, like scouts at a High School basketball game, right here at BP. Nobody has ever said they have gotten published from putting photos up at BP, but you never know.

Well thats true enough, but I perceived the question as the person thinking that bp had a publishing expertise of their own. but was looking for others in that business. And yes there are some pro photographers on here and maybe one of them could or would answer her question.

That's right, BP doesn't have a publishing section like the contest section.

Brendan thats right and what I thought. Like I said I perceived her question to include thinking that they did, thats all.

I know that BP doesn't have the publishing. I am on here for the enjoyment of looking at other photos and to get mine critiqued. What I meant about publishing my own is that another person on another question topic posted a site that publishes books for the person. It's lulu.com. I know that BP has "funsie" contests. I am not in this for the money by any means. I love photography and just enjoy looking at and taking pictures.

  Heather,
Right know I've posted some photos on Lulu.com. Were you just going to upload the photos for sale?

I hadn't really looked into it yet. But I thought about lulu.com as another means of getting a nicer portfolio together..

  Heather,
I've had some photos on lulu.com for quite a while, and they haven't sold any. But I might just have to put more photos on it. I would probably recomend it, because it can't hurt because it's free.
