What is blue toner for?

I just started a while ago developing my own film. So I have a B&W dark room, I bought a bunch of chemicals from a guy, and included was blue toner. I have no Idea what its for, so any answers would be great!!!

It's been a while, but I believe the blue toner was used to give whiter whites in the old fiber papers that everyone used b4 the introduction of RC (resin coated) papers.

Yes, it will look whiter, however your dark areas will be a tint of blue, Your blue toner may leave a bit of a yellow stain in the white areas as well, to remove theese you need to wash thuroughly and painting the areas with a small paintbrush dipped in saltwater will help remove it. Check my gallery in the next week or 2 and I will have uploaded my bluetoned print.

It will work on both Fiber and RC papers RC just takes a bit longer to tone from what I hear.
