Photography Question

Martha A. Rumley

dance rehearsal

I'm not sure just what lens to use for my granddaughter's ballet dress rehearsal. It's in the morning,
indoors with available light.Should I use,50mm,100mm.28-135mm.or my 18-55 using portrait? Also should I use RAW?
thanks

I'm no pro (at all)...but I just spent 4 days photographing my daughter in her 3 day dance recital...plus Thursday night's dress rehersal. I have a Nikon D70 and I used my 18-70 mm lens most of the time. I took my 70-300 and used that on the last day of the show to experiment. Got some good close ups...but the focusing is more difficult with the telephoto. Of course, I always sit in the front row...so I'm pretty close to the dancers.
