Studio lights with a Canon Rebel

I just ordered a Canon Rebel XT for studio work. Today I noticed a question about studio lights and whether they would damage a digital camera. Is that a possible problem with the Rebel XT?

The possible danger is if the current passing through the sync cord used to trigger the lights is too high for the camera. You would need to find out what this current is, either from your studio light manual or the manufacturer, and then find out what the max current that the camera can handle is, again, either from the manual or from Canon.

I've heard of an adaptor called a Safe Sync adaptor, which will limit the current to protect the camera, but you might not need this if your light system has a low enough current through the sync cord.
