Photography Question

choose one none please

don't see many canadian geese in this area.. when I saw this pair I had to take a pic.. couldn't get any closer and only have 6x optical zoom.. don't know if I like the close crop or the one that shows how totally alone they are in that big field..

If I had to chose one, it would be "geese alone".
The one with the larger field would've been okay to show depth if it were all green field from top to bottom without the drab stuff in the back that breaks up the photo.
Or you could've gotten down on your belly for the shot. Would've given the added depth of the grass infront of the geese and from the low level the trees/hill in the back would've been kind of blurred out?
Did that make any sense?

Bob

[big grin] my husband read your answer and almost choked on his coffee... I was dressed to go to a wedding when I pulled over to get this pic.. I had roadway, about 2 feet of shoulder and then "wetland" from the snow melt..
btw, that 'drab stuff' is what maine looks like for more than 1/2 the year
when it's not covered in snow..

Brigitte, Geese Alone is a good composition. They are all keepers. By the way, for accuracy sake, These are Canana Geese, not Canadian.

thank you, I can only submit one as a potential show entry and am really torn .. both between entering any, and if so, which one..
i have seen the pictured geese id'd as alternately canada geese or canadian geese.. the local bird sanctuary called them canadian so that's what I useed..
now, I found several references to canana geese when I did a search but no pictures.. please tell me that was a misprint so I can stop looking.. i'm an information junkie..

Brigitte, being Canadian myself (although not a goose) I believe these birds are called Canada Geese. They are widely referred to as Canadian Geese, however. I did a Google search on both terms and Canada goose came up with more official sites such as government and conservation authority websites, while the term Canadian geese had listed a mixed bag of sites ranging from individual sites to the official ones already mentioned. Hope this helps. Rob

By the way, I relly like the picture with the wider view of the field. I know the background is 'drab', but I like the contrast it gives to the green field in front. But...that's just MHO, I'm not really a photographer...just a guy who owns a camera and has a bit of fun with it.

i personally preferred the one with the contrasts.. BUT, the other one has a closer look to the geese..

Briditte, I like Geese Alone the best.

Rob, I have to disagree with you. You are a photographer. Good shots in your gallery.

Thanks Kerry, I've read enough of your posts to BetterPhoto to take that as quite a compliment.
