Why do my photos appear darker on betterphoto? Hi betterphoto staff! I've been wondering for as long as I've uploaded photos on betterphoto why my pics always look darker than what they do on my computer and all the other photosites where I upload my pics? Often I'm dissappointed seing how my photo looks here because of the lack og light on it. It means that I have to make a sepcial light BP-version everytime. I hope this is something, which there is a possible solution for? Greetings, Mette

It could very well be a mismatch of color spaces. Do you know your image's color space? The most accepted in use today is Adobe RGB 1998. I would email BP and ask them what color space they are using, or what color space that they recommend you use. Then when you send an image, convert your image's "destination space" to the one BP recommends. Hopefully, that may help. Michael H. Cothran www.mhcphoto.net

hello guys, I recently noticed that this happens with me too, and I think I know the cause. many of the sites that you upload pictures to, do an "auto exposure" of the picture you uploaded, thats why it sometimes becomes darker. the problem is I dont know how to fix it .. hehe.

I save my images for the contest in the colorspace sRGB which is the standard default color space for the internet. I haven't had any problems with my images not displaying exactly at BP as they do on my monitor. Since I usually only edit images for the contest I have PS set up for the sRGB color space as well. For sharpness issues size them at 480px on the short side and you'll see a sharper image than if you size them at 500px on the short side.

Also, I find that my image in PSE2 looks one way, and if I immediately go view that image in Windows Fax/Picture Viewer, it is darker---and what I see on BP (ie, through Windows Internet Explorer) matches the view from WinFax/Pic Viewer, even before I upload to BP. WinFax/Pic and WinI.E.5.0 never show me the "lighter" image that PSE2 does... Just food for thought, on all the different browsers/viewers, and their treatment of your image data.
