Back Lighting/lease respond

I was wondering if adding a 250 watt smith victor mini boom back light which is tungsten continous lighting be O.k. for my photos? Right now I own a JTL 160 strobe and getting ready to buy another strobe(same kind) and need a background light to keep down shadows.

Would this be sufficient enough or should I buy a specific backlight?

Also when using a flash meter with this continous back ground light and my strobes would it give an accurate reading?

Thanks

No. I would not mix tungsten and strobe light in a studio portrait. If you MUST use the tungsten light, buy a heat proof blue gel to put over it, so that it will be the same color balance as your strobes. Personally, I'd just use one of your strobe lights.
Note - your flash/strobe will be controlled by the aperture, while the tungsten light would need to be balanced by your shutter speed.
