Clarification needed on aspects of copyrighting

I wonder if somebody could please shed some light on my questions about digital copyrighting. I have already read several question/answers regarding this, but I do not understand a couple of things: Firstly, what does 'watermarking' a photo mean, and how can I do this? (I use CompuPic Pro as a workshop). Secondly, people have said that one should put the © sign together with their name across a photo before submitting. I just do this using the text option in my workshop, is that good enough? Last question: I am new to Better Photo, but I have noticed that competition entries etc. all come with that © under the photo. Is that done automatically anyway here? Any advice would be most apprecited !!! Thanks !! Viviana

Can't tell you how to watermark a photo. Maybe someone else can. Using the text option will work as a copyright mark just fine. Better Photo will automatically mark your photos as copyrighted when you upload them.

watermark means a faded marking, anything you put on something that you can see thru. sometimes it's made to be visible when you let light shine thru it, like on $100 bill.

I was also somewhat questioning something like this. Personally, I don't like it when photos online have too much text that's too frilly on the bottom or wherever. I also noticed that in Photoshop (I notice Viviana uses something else) there's something called the "digital watermark" or something like this under Filters. How does this work? Thanks!

Is a photo copyrighted just because you put it on the photo or is it a legal issue? You would think I would know the answer to this but I just came out from under my rock a few months ago. lol

You can create a watermark by putting your text on a new layer and then setting that layer's opacity to a low number like 25 and it will show up real light on the photo. Hope this helps.
