350XT - has anyone else noticed?

That you can put your old lenses on your 350XT but you can't put your new lenses (from the 350XT) and put it on your 3000n 35mm camera?

Strange.....

  Nat,
If you're talking about the EF-S lens that came with the 350XT, then you're right. The EF-S lenses are built specifically for the smaller-than-35mm image sensor in most of the EOS digital cameras.

But it's not just the smaller image circle. If you compare your new EF-S lens side-by-side with an EF mount lens, you will see that the rear-most lens element extends into the camera past the mount. This puts the element closer to the sensor. If you were able to mount this lens on a 35mm camera, or a digital with a full-size sensor, the corresponding full-size mirror would likely crash into the lens when it tried to swing up. Not a good thing.

This is why Canon made the new mount incompatible with other EF mount cameras.
