which lens

I just visited my local camera shop and they are recomendig I use a promaster19-35 ens for my d100 for landscapes. While trying to compare lenses I found a nikon 18-70ed for a similiar price. The biggest difference I noticed on the spec sheet is the promaster angle of view ranges from 96 to67" while the nikon ranges from67' to 22'. Can someone please explain the practical difference in the angle of view and also if any experience with either a recomendation would be appreciated

  welcome don,
the field of view you get is in degrees, which is taken out of a 360 degree circle, like cutting out a piece of pie.so if you cut the pie in four pieces, each piece would be 90 degrees.ok,now if you stand in the center of the pie and look out across one piece of pie you would see almost the 96 degrees the 19mm end of the promaster lens would see.at 35mm allyour field of view would be 67 degrees, make sense? now on the nikon, once you get out to 70mm,your field of view would shrink to 22 degrees.the farther out you zoom, the less field of view you'll have.
don't forget about your crop factor,1.5 or 1.6x,so I think you're actually getting a 30x56,promaster or a 29x112mm,nikon.which I think would shrink your field of view by the same amount.
however close to your subject makes a big difference on what lense would suit you.
