Photography Question

Mary L. Lemley

How do you choose POTD's?

Are POTD's chosen from contest uploaded pics. Are generally the same people's photo's chosen time after time. 05-19-05 POTD, (of course in keeping with my own opinion), is very blah. After having looked for over 2 yrs. at other's galleries, it's so hard to see the point in today's. But it definitely makes me wish there had been another angle or so of "roof".
Mainly wondering what they are chosen from out of sooooo many thousands uploaded per day. Thanks, Mary L.

  Hi Mary,
Thanks for your interest in the Photo of the Day.

All images for the Photo of the Day newsletter are chosen from contest entries. BetterPhoto staff members make the selections.

However, in order to get a good balance of photos over a period of days and weeks - i.e., "traditional," digital art, color, black and white, landscapes, details, animals, etc. - some of the pictures are "held over" into the next month. Thus, although some photos may have a "contest finalist" award attached to it, those particular images were actually chosen for POTD status BEFORE the final contest judging.

Actually, Mary, there have been a great variety of members who have had a great variety of images chosen as POTD. Check out the POTD archives and you'll see what I mean!

Of course, not everyone is going to like every POTD image every single day. After all, that's the nature of any form of art!

Thanks again, Mary, for your interest in BetterPhoto and the Photo of the Day!

Thank-you Kerry, for such a prompt response! I have learned from Scenic 101 and enjoy your photos soooo much. I have lots of time to travel, less money, and when I have the money, don't seem to have enough time, but I have wanted to go on a BP hands-on trip with instuctor and other folks as there is nothing like roaming with camera in-hand!! My gallery is all local, but I hope to reach this goal soon!! Mary Lemley

  Thank you Kerry,

My model is a friend's ten year old daughter.

She is extremely gifted and talented and it's like she just instintively knows what she's doing.
