Diffused Glow

Can anyone explain what I am doing wrong in cs2 when trying to use the diffused glow. It puts gray marks where the glow should be. It does not blur it at all. I am looking at a book and following the directions but it is not working out. thank you

Are you trying to give the look that you get with a diffuser filter? I've found he best way to create that effect is to go to layers, and add layer, and add layer as copy (or something around those lines. Then go to filters, blur, and gaussian blur. Add just a little bit of gaussian blur to how things look when you wake up in the morning lol. Not too much blur. You should only be blurring the new layer which will appear to be the only layer that you can see. Then in the layers palette (F7 if you're using PC) change the Opacity to around 50% or whatever you think looks best. Although, if you're going for something else, I'm not sure what to tell you. Hope this helps though!

Gaussian blurr works but that gives a different look than a diffused glow.
I always recommend duplicating your layer before you do anything like this. First, I would Gaussian blurr around 4.5, then diffuse glow the layer slightly. This will add a nice lightening effect. play with the opacity of the layer until you get the desired effect you like. You can try any color they all offer different effects white would be 'typical'. I have used off white for certain photos but you do have to be careful because the offwhites can make the photo look a little flat. ALWAYS erase around the eyes and other fine details.
hope this helps.
