What your personal favorite image Question for the week! I was just wondering what image in your gallery is your favorite and why?

Mellanie |
Hey Kerby! I have too many favorites to nail it down just to one!!! :) BUT, if I have to, I would say that "For Jacob" is my 'newest' favorite, of course because it shows my little girl growing up! BTW, love "goofy"; it's a fantastic image!!! Mel

Mellanie, I look at For Jacob. That is a wonderful image. THe flowers are so outstanding and your young lady is a real doll. I love that one too. Kerby

I think my favorite is an image from my cousin's wedding, that I called "Her Big Day". It's actually a candid that I like more than any of the posed shots. She was looking in a mirror and fussing over her makeup before we got started. I was going to just take a test shot of her from the side and I said, "Don't worry, you look beautiful." She turned and just gave me the prettiest smile. It's one of those lucky shots that just worked.

Chris I looked over your gallery and Her big day is a beautiful image. I really like that one. She has a million dollar smile. But another one in your gallery that I feel in love with was the little girl kissing the little boy. That is a WOW picture......It is so sweet and special. Kerby

Tough question. It'd probably be easier if you just asked for my first born child...:-) I guess it would be a toss-up between "Can You See Me Now"..pure luck shot of the peacock shot thru it's tail feathers from the rear.....or, well, let's stick with the peacock. Or maybe the polar bears. Sure you don't want my first born? Just for trivia, my gallery follows my photographic education (or whatever), the pics you see first are most recent, the ones at the end are when I began. Maybe you can see a difference/Maybe not...I can. Bob

I really can't say that I have a favorite in my gallery, mainly because I don't think my photos measure up to the quality of so many others I seen on this site.
|
|||||||
|
||||||||
Christopher A. Vedros |
Kerry, the idea is to appreciate your own work for what it means to you, and not to compare it against everyone else's. I get the feeling that your gallery right now is just a small glimpse of your work. I'd like to see you post more. My favorite of your current images is the Girl in a Catholic Church. It's a very peaceful image. It's well exposed, in a setting where it's not always easy to get a good exposure. I appreciate it because I know I probably would have shot it differently. I would have been tempted to move closer or to zoom in closer. I think that would have ruined the mood. It would have forced the statue or the girl to be the subject, where composing it the way you did allows the mood to be the subject. I like it.

I would have to say my favorit is "for all who have fallen" Kerry I know how you feel...most of the time that is how I feel. But your pictures are awesome!

Kay Beausoleil |
Kerry, I agree with Chris. Please yourself. In our camera club, the images I like best don't usually win, but I've won big with some I'm iffy about. Other people's judgements are sooo subjective; it's yours that counts. In your gallery, I liked Spanish Moss for its delicate colour and interesting lines. OK, nowit's your turn to answer the question! In mine, it's tough because I like them all, but I'd pick Metaphysical Moment because people either get it or hate it, so I spend my time telling the story behind it or defending it. Like the Ugly Stepchild, I guess!

Your question prompted me to go back to my gallery and try to put my photos into a "favorites" order. Boy, that's hard to do. I love "Golden Kingdom," but the composition in "Working Man" makes it one of my favorites too. "Around the Bend..." works for me, but it may mean nothing to someone else. Who knows???

What a fun question! I'm like some of the others it's hard to make a decision. If I had to choose just one, I guess it would be "Sister are Best Friends" because of the expressions on my girls' faces as they look at each other!

I would have to say that "Grandma's swing" is my favourite because it was one of those holler and shoot pictures that just turned out. After browsing all your galleries, I have to say you folks have some wonderful photos here. My goal is to attain even some of the talent I displayed on this site.

Bob Cammarata |
This is a tough one! It's hard to pick one but I've managed to narrow it down to a few of my favorites by category: Story telling: "Natural Erosion at Work" and "Wishing" Nature: "Propagation" and "Redtail Portrait" Scenic: "Mystique" Fun stuff: "Smile!" and "Feeding Frenzy"
|
|||||||
|
||||||||
John A. Lind |
Kerby . . . It's easy to see why you like "Goofy" as it makes a statement about her personality . . . plus your timing in capturing it in mid-leap was impeccable. Melanie . . . Kerry . . . IMVHO, those are the measures of a successful photograph . . . most especially (b). Work toward those goals and don't worry about how your works "compare" to the works of others. Instead . . . if you see a compelling photograph, study the lighting and compositional techniques that were used to make it compelling. -- John Lind

Linda, I agree this question has given me the opportunity to view galleries I might otherwise have missed. I really enjoyed your gallery, especially the portraits of your dogs. "Just Ducky" also caught my eye as I love nature and waterscape photos. Good work! Well, not really work--good fun. John

That's a hard one...I would have to say that my favorite one is "playtime" just because it reminds me of the innocense of childhood. I love looking at photos that take me back to no responsibilities and just play.

Well what a fun question! I am glad I finally had time to come to this website again! Kerby, I love your photo Goofy! I love photos that tell something about who someone is and that certainly does!. My favorite is probably the one I use for my signiture box. This was an image that God gave to me in an image several years ago. It was fun to see it finally come to life. I also love Timeless Treasure. But like everyone else this is really hard because I have many favorites.

Love everyone's pictures and I'm about to rehash what everyone else has said about enjoying new galleries, but Plenty of people have said it. I'll just say "ditto!" My ultimate is Nickel Town because I just love the colors and retro-ness and the abstract lines, but it is closely followed by Kissy (one of the few really great pictures that I got from their wedding since I missed most of it due to a flat tire... grr.....)

Wow, what great talent here! I'm so impressed! My favs continually change. An all time fav is Country Mile. But current favorites are Flight Wheee Summer Wishes Sping Father and Sons Phew. I am going to come back and read this thread when I have time. It's great fun! I haven't had a chance to view all favorites, but I've seen many. What strikes me is that often the photographer's favorites aren't mine! :-) Art is subjective. Karma

Well, I decided to revisit this thread and give a proper answer. My favorites are based on more of how satisfied I was that I got what I was after. Some are just "grab" shots, like Niagra Falls. I was there and just grabbed the shot - no setup, etc. Church - I shot this one in 1967. It was my first "good" picture. I was trying to get such a small DOF that the grill I was shooting through would be so out of focus as to be translucent. It worked. It was also an overcast day and I was trying to capture the mood. I think I did. Girl at Catholic Church - I planned this one. I used no flash so I would get the combination of the daylight (using daylight balanced film) and the golden glow from the incandescent light. I also wanted to get the feeling of being drawn to the subject by the parallel lines of the walls, pews and floor. In addition, I wanted to get the reflection of the statue of St. John Berchman off the floor. Lastly, I didn't want the girl (my daughter) looking at me becuuse I wanted to capture a feeling of serenity that would have been lost if she had. BTW, it was shot at 1/15 sec., handheld. I didn't have my tripod. Got lucky, I guess. Hot Springs Park - This one was part of a series I took at this little creek in the park but it was my favorite. I wanted to get a lot of different things out of this one. I wanted the reflection of the bridge, (OK, I like reflections) and the patterns of light and dark without the highlights being blown out and without the shadows being lost. I was trying to use almost the entire latitude of my film in this shot. Couldn't have been done with slide film. Guess I got lucky again.

BTW, despite what the caption says, the Church shot was taken with a TLR Rollei. I also like the Sunset-2, but not because of anything I did. That is just the way the sky looked that evening.

Hi Kerby! congrats for getting in the final! And good luck when they choose the winners Um difficult question, I have a few favs to, Drops of water - because it took me millions of shots to get this one! The Eye - cos well its weird Through the eyes of a photoshop addict - because it started out as an accident! and people either love it or hate it Lastly Macro Fly - I dont know why really, just like it.... My favorite of my own pictures is "Heart Of The Iris," because I feel that I was actually sucessful with my firt iris close up. I love it. It is my fav, definetly. However, there are others that come in close succession. "I love "Weeds" "Suffolk" and all my flower pictures. I love looking at other peoples' favorite pictures, thanks Kerby! I love my "Martini" series, just because they were so much fun to do. You know when you get on a roll and they just start popping left and right. Then you get a dry spell for a while? I also love "Shush, Daddy's here", while I wish I could have photoshoped dad's "fat" cheek, I love his emotion and patience with the fact the baby is screaming it's head off. By the end, I was crying my eyes out with that one photo. Really great photo question!!

I know that people would expect me to say one of my flowers, but, my two favorite images are ones that I created in PS. Happy Halloween and The Witch's Castle. I love Halloween and haunted houses. The building that appears in both of them is a landmark building that I've photographed for over 25 years and recently the somewhat snooty historical society decided to charge people to photograph it (imagine that). The fact that I turned it into a haunted castle makes me giggle every time I look at them! If I picked a flower it would be Will it Go Round in Circles because that big old coneflower makes me feel good everytime I see it.

Kerby, I love your "goofy"...but I also love your photograph "windy". your daughter is so photogenic and you capture her so well. This is a great question...I would say my favorite photograph in my gallery is of my oldest daughter, "natural beauty"...this was the first shot I took that I myself said "wow!" my most recent favorite is of my baby girl and it is "my angel". of course I am like tammy and carolyn...i change favorites quite a bit...but "natural beauty" is my all-time favorite... thanks for asking the question and loved looking at everyone's favorites!! great work!!

What a fun question Kerby!!... I would have to say my personal favorite is "I Believe I Can Fly" of my 18 month old son trying to play basketball.. I wish there was a better background for it, but it's such a natural moment captured.. As everyone knows, I could never have gotten a baby to pose... A candid shot for sure.. And I love it.. I hope it's a fav. of his someday.. What a wonderful thing to post a panel one day of the different ages and stages of him under this same basket.... Thanks for asking...

Oh wow, just came across this. I'll try to put SOME of my favorites together but I'm not sure. I always tend to really not like my stuff after a while. Here we go. I'll try to keep it to 5 or so... The Gardener Yeah, I like my larger of the two moon photos but I had to use my 3.2 MP Kodak EasyShare at full digital zoom so the resolution is, yeah. haha. I should also be adding another one sometime soon that is similar to "Tree in Black and White." I'm taking my first darkroom photo class fall semester so I'm trying to seeing things in black and white. There it is!

Kerby, what a great question. Ingenius really. I say that because it encourages everyone to thoughtfully look at their own work, as well as to look at and praise the work of others. I can definitely identify with Kerry's comments about not feeling one's work is satisfactory. But, the great thing about photography (or life, for that matter) is that you can always improve. "Just keep shooting." Good advice. Sorry, I waxed philosophical on you guys. I'll have to go look and see which of my photos I like best.....

I took this image at the Nelson-Atkins Art Museum, the only thing I really had to do is clone out the little sign that tells you about the artwork. I like it because when I look at it, I can almost hear a story, conversation... I also was pleased by the angle of the shot, and contrast. I'd be interested in an actual critique, as long as it is done in a polite manner!

What a terrific question, Kerby! I think I have two favorites :) My first is "Morning Light" which I took of my youngest son early in the morning at some ruins. My second is "Blue spotlight" which is a cool guitar shot I took playing around with exposure time and a blue filtered flashlight. Experimenting is so much fun! I really like "Goofy", too :) It is such a fun shot and all your photos are really great. This has been fun going to all the different galleries and seeing the photographer's favorites!

Hi Kerby, After some of the other threads around here, I didn't want to see this thread die. Also my favourites, like many others of you, changes from time to time. I was looking at your gallery, Kerby, and I have a hard time picking a favorite, but I guess I like the Enter to Beauty series you have. Of my gallery right now, I think Reflections #2 is one of my favorites. Nature photos have always fascinated me. Thanks again for starting this great discussion. Rob.
