Photography Question

Trying to understand rules

I am just trying to understand the rules for the categories. If you enter a photo say in animals shouldn't it be "out of the camera" except for minor level corrections etc?
Is special effects or digital darkroom for "digital art"?
I see a lot of photos in categories that have several pictures put together but they are not in "digital darkroom" etc. I see pictures in special effects that are also done in the digital darkroom and so I am getting confused as to how much editing I can do.

  You are absolutely right, Crystal...
The category rules are guidelines and they are not hard rules.

Other than what you mentioned, there are cases where you may have a photo that does not fit in any category but you still have to put it in a category. So, you select the category you believe it has the best chance...

And, some photos are entered in a certain categoty by mistake... that's happens, too...
And, there's some confusion about "digital darkroom" and "special effect" among the submitters, too...

The bottom line is one should enter a photo in a category where he/she believes it has the best chance in the contest.
