How to get catchlights in dark eyes?

I have just discovered how to achieve catchlights in my portraits I take outdoors, but I have not been successful in getting them to show up in people with brown or dark blue eyes. Any suggestions? Oh, I am using a Nikon N-65 with a silver reflector on outdoor shots. Thanks for any help!

  Lisa,
If you're not getting catchlights, it's your lighting direction. Work with it to ensure you're getting illumination on the eyes. Some lighting styles are more difficult to do this with than others . . . as are some subjects with deeper set eyes compared to others (Rembrandt [aka triangle] and split lighting come to mind).

It is more difficult to see whether or not there are catchlights outdoors than in studio. Keep working at it. When I'm using a reflector outdoors, I will sometimes still use very slight fill flash (emphasis on very slight) and this can help . . . but the risk is always too much fill . . . so it's a tradeoff.
