I narrowed my pictures for Lesson 2 down to 2 for city/suburb and 3 for nature. I posted one pic for each category but would like to have someone critique my 2nd city/suburb shot and would like to know if I actually picked the best of the 3 nature shots.

Hi Kristie!Im Not Sure What Your Focal Point Is In The First Pick? It Has A Good Title,If Its The Sign Its Not In The Rule Of Thirds My Eyes Wander Alot Looking At It,The Second Pick Is Composed A Little Better But The Background Clutter Really Takes Away From The Pic Its Really Soft On The Focal Point Too.(Maybe To Slow Of A Shutter Speed)?
The Landscape Image You Picked Is The Best Of The Bunch It Has Really Good Comp And Holds Your Attention Pretty Well! Hope That Helps!
Im Sure You Are Learning About The Rule Of Thirds And The Golden Mean Use These As Often As Possible,Soon It Will Become Second Nature:-)

Thanks for your input. I know about the Rule of Thirds but not the Golden Mean. I will look it up. I had much more trouble with the city/suburbs shots than the nature shots. In the first picture, I was simply trying to get something in the foreground, something in the middle, and something in the background. I was enamoured with the idea of being behind bars IN Las Vegas on the strip while the most beautiful part of the country lies in those mountains beyond. The buildings, sign, gas truck are all distractions to the lovely desert and mountains. I should have put the sign in one of the lower corners and lined up the horizon along the upper horizontal line of the thirds. Thanks again for your view of my pics. KSD
