photography education

I am very much interested in photography and I am planning to go for a Bachelor's degree in photography. Can you please suggest me some of the schools in the US that has the best photography programs? I have heard lots about Columbia college in chicago, academy of art university, etc. Please do list some good ones and also some schools that are not very expensive.

I went to Brooks Institute in the 1970's, have friends who now instruct there, and can highly recommend it. During that time, there were really only three schools that were considered at the top: Brooks, Art Center in LA, and Rochester Institute. That has changed and there are a lot more great places to learn. I lived photography 7 days a week for three years at Brooks and what better way to learn. You are competely prepared to enter the market, a market that is very brutal these days. In fact, only 20% of my graduating class are still working as photographers. So my point is that the better prepared to enter the profession, the better chance you have. It also depends on how much money you have to spend on your education. Hallmark Institute has an impressive program and I am note as familiar with the Art Institutes, but they are worht a look. I would also recommend a school that is a specialty photo school more than a university that has a photo department.
