Lenses for Tsavo Safari in Kenya My husband and I are going to Kenya this summer to see his family. I just purchased a Canon 350d and plan on taking some close-up shots of wildlife on the Reserve. What kind of lense will work well with this? I have seen the work of Jim Zuckerman and I am curious as to what lenses he uses for his most close-up shots. I probably shouldn't spend more than a couple of hundred dollars...give or take a few...

The EF 100-400 f/4.5-5.6L IS USM would probably be preferred. Very sharp, Image Stabilization, rugged/professional build. But it's ~$1400. For "a couple hundred dollars" the Sigma 70-300 f/4-5.6 APO (~$220) is hard to beat. For a couple hundred more, the EF 75-300 f/4-5.6 IS USM (~$420) isn't quite as sharp as the Sigma in bench testing, but the Image Stabilization feature makes it a good choice when you don't have a monopod or tripod.

Hey Cynthia. I myself have the same camera as you do. the canon digital rebel xt right? I purchased a Quantaray 70-300mm telephoto lens with Macro on 180-300mm. This lens is only $180.00 and is offers great image quality without costing you an arm and a leg. You can get it at Ritz Camera. I like it cause it takes great closeups with its macro feature, and you can take good tele photos.
