Depth of Field

Could you share with me the methods you use to determine the depth of field? On older manual lens I could read the depth of field scale on the lens and get a good idea. On the new lens you have no DOF scale. Should I buy a palm and DOF software to measure the exact depth of field with each lens I'm using? Thanks for your responses. Ken Barrett

Michael H. Cothran   You are right - there is no way to accurately determine DOP on newer (zoom) lenses. If it is crucial to your shooting, there have always been charts available for different focal lengths and f-stops. Perhaps you can come across some online.
There is a mail order firm called Porters, which has been around for decades. They specialize in obscure photo items, and doodads you couldn't find anywhere else (and wondered how you ever got along without!). Check them to see if they have any DOP charts.

There is an online DOP calculator...
