Photography Question

OMG - I think I am going to throw up!

I've just been asked to do my first wedding for a couple in TWO WEEKS!!! Yep, they left it a little late didn't they! Well I told them I would do it for $550 and that includes all film, developing, 6x4s, 11x14 enlargement and my time.

Thank you BP.com for all the advice on wedding photography, I just searched for it and found a tonne of it!

Oh.... now back to throwing up.....

You're gonna make it. When I shot my first wedding, I wasn't a bit nervous. That's because I was too young and dumb to know better (16). Now, after doing it for years, I do get nervous because I know the tremendous responsibility handed to me. Once you get there and start shooting, the butterflies will go away and you will have a great time.

  Kerry,

I normally wouldn't do a wedding, I don't think I am up to that type of standard required. But they don't have a photographer at all and aren't after much and said if I don't do it then they are just going to rely on photos that people take at the wedding, I just couldn't let them make that mistake. They had no idea about wedding photography and the price and when they heard that it costs around $2000 they flipped. They only wanted something for about $400, but I told them they won't find anything decent for that etc. I would rather do the photos and know I can get better ones that "Uncle Fred" then let them regret not having any photos at all. At least it is a garden wedding and just some formal shots afterwards, nothing too much, the lighting shouldn't be difficult, all outdoors, lots of shade etc.

Thanks for the vote of cofidence!

So anyway, how did your first photos shoot go at the age of 16?

It went pretty well. I was using a TLR Rollieflex - everything manual. Heck, it was 38 years ago, everything was manual. My mom was the yearbook sponsor at the local high school and had taught me how to take, develop and print pictures when I was in elementary school. I shot the photos for two other teachers who were getting married. A couple of years ago, I shot the photos for her great-nephew's wedding.

Not quite. No brothers or sisters and too young to be married so no way to be an Uncle Fred. More like a cousin Fred.
