Photography Question

remote triggers

OK I know this may sound rather juvenile but I am looking for a remote trigger for a canon rebel. I am having a hard time tracking one down. do they even make a remote trigger for a canon rebel? any insights would be terrific!

  No problem, Leon.

There are 3 Canon remotes available for the Digital Rebel. The Remote Switch RS-60E3 is a switch on a 2ft cord that plugs in to a jack near the data & video ports on the left side of the camera.

There are also two wireless infrared switches, the RC-1 or the RC-5 available. These operate up to 16 ft. away.

I don't have any of these myself yet, but I think they all do the same thing. They all cost about $25, and B&H Photo sells them all.

If anyone can give pros or cons comparing these three, please speak up.

Thanks Chris I appreciate the input! I suppose I forgot a key part to the question the camera I have is a 35mm film camera. Rebel S II. I havent been able to find any jacks or inputs for attachments. Does it connect to the hot shoe?

Oops. You said Rebel, and I assumed digital. I also have a Rebel Ti film camera. I haven't found any specs online for the S II to see if it can use a remote. The Ti, along with the G II and T2 can use the RS-60E3. On the Rebel Ti, the jack for it is located on the left side of the camera (when you're holding it like you're taking a picture) near where the strap attaches. There is a little cap covering the jack.

Do you still have your manual? I looked online but couldn't find one.

I found this bit of info at PhotoNotes.org:

"There is no form of remote shutter release. No cable releases; no infrared remote controls. Unless you open up the camera and solder your own extension cable on, that is. The EOS 500/Rebel X was the first Rebel-class camera with a socket for a remote shutter release."

(Sorry!)

Porter's Camera store sells a strap-on adapter that allows you to use a standard cable release with any camera. Here is a link:

At $43.99, I think it's expensive, considering it's pretty much a velcro strap with a threaded nut on it. But if you really need one . . .
