Outdoor pictures with pink skylines

When taking pictures outdoors especially in bright conditions the background turn out pink in colour.
I tried taking some pictures on a beach recently and the sky turned out pink as did most of the sandy beach.

Sometimes the whole picture turns out with a pink glow,including any people in the photo.

If the picture has plenty of background objects in it, trees,buildings etc it seems to be ok.

Can anyone advise me how to get round this problem.
