Photography Question

Andrew Laverghetta

Is the color really off or is it my monitor?

Hey all, I know this will be a somewhat opinionated question but I was hoping somebody could give me their input. I have been wondering if it has been my monitor or if it is the way I scanned a picture. Here's my situation...

Check out the picture in my gallery that is the ONLY FINALIST picture I have. Does it look a little green/yellow/washed out to you? I scanned this picture on a dell all-in-one printer and I was wondering if the low price scanner has washed out some color. The actual print looks more how I view the other picture that looks exactly like this one except the color is a little darker and bolder. I like the darker, more bolder gold version better.
My main point...does my finalist picture look a little washed out to you? I just want to make sure I don't need to get a new moniter or calibrate the one that I have. Thanks for your help!

I think it looks better in the lighter color. It's more shiny and looks like sparkling gold. I've seen these two before and wondered what you did to make the flute look so much brighter and sparkly in your finalist!

It does not look washed out on my monitor at all. It looks bright yellow with sparkles. The test image looks dark and needs more light like there are lighting issues. But of course that is my monitor and it is not tell all!

In the finalist, I used to dell printer/scanner to scan the actual 4x6 print I think I might have said, but for the darker one, I scanned it on a flatbed HP scanner with the backlit top. I don't think I did any color editing to it though. Just cleaning some dust and specs.
I'm just worried because I just bought Photoshop CS and ordered a new 20D so I want to make sure that if I take pictures and edit them from the RAW image, I want to make sure they're going to print ok. Thanks for the help though!

I believe that you will get much better and acurate results with downloading the actual picture verses scanning the pic! You are going to be amazed! Photoshop CS is a dream!! You will not be disapointed--Have fun with your new toys ENJOY!!!

Short answer from a veteran printer - YES. It is extremely yellow, with a hint of green.

Thanks! I was hoping that it was off with that little bit of green. I think my monitor is correct after all. Now to get my 20D...

Hey, Michael! What would you suggest for MY monitor saying what I said! I have had issues with my monitor and printer set up having the same output but now that you state THIS I am further wondering!
Would you recomend a calibrater to calibrate the two and if you do what brand or type would you recommend! I would GREATLY love your help! I have a Sony flat 19" and a i9900.
