Diffusion filters how-toos?

Hi everyone! I am a film user who's getting into digital with my new "baby" being a Canon 20D. I'll be ordering it at the beginning of next week hopefully. When I shoot film I LOVE using my diffusion filter but I've tried to get the same effect on photoshop but it doesn't have the same effect. I open an image in Photoshop 7.0, then go to Filter>Stylize>Diffuse and it gives me the option for Normal, Darken Only, Lighten Only, and Anisotropic. So far the anisotropic looks the best bit it's still not what I'm looking for.
I'm going to upload a photo to my gallery as soon as I'm done with this as an example.
Is there some other way to give the my digital photos a better diffuse? With the actual filter, isn't the effect greater with a smaller aperture? Can I get that larger effect with PS 7.0 without my photos look really grainy and messy? Thanks!

Here's the best way to get a filter "diffusion" look in PSE. The diffuse filter is more about light that I can tell. Try this.

Take your photo and make a duplicate layer. Go to the bottom layer, then go to your filters and go to blur and then "gaussian" blur. Strongly blur the bottom layer of the photo. Then go to your layer pallette, click on the top layer and slide your opacity slider down a bit until you get the effect you like.

I used that method quite a bit to great effect. Now I have the Power Retouche pack of filters and I find the soft filter avaialable in it very similar to on camera effects. Good luck!

Thanks Karma! It seems like everything looks better with a little diffusion. Thanks again!
